My horns sound like anemic French cab horns, do they all sound like
that? I'd like macho horns, I don't want something that makes me want
to say "excuse me" on those rare occasions when I feel the need to
energize them.
In my previous life (GM cars) most had an adjustment, a lock nut and a
screw that would adjust the tone. Do these horns have the same. I'm
not going under the car any more than necessary, if these aren't
adjustable I'll live with my embarrassment.

Many companies make the 1A1 (inner-high beam only) and 2A1 (outer-high/low beam
combo) headlights that fit our cars. But, if you are trying to keep your car
'concours correct' the originals were Sylvania.

Some time back there was an exchange about the need for the Stainless Steel
Door Guides and that some of the earlier cars did not came with them
installed. I can't find the reference, so here goes:
My car, VIN 1074, does not have the guides.
My doors align and open and close quite well.
Should I still install the guides?
(There is a set on e-bay, but Ian is the high bidder at this time and I don't
want to mess him up if he need the guides and I don't!)

Subject: RE. Headlight trouble
The headlight switch has a small orange clip in it which keeps it in place
when you put it on dip and beam, mine broke but rather that spend money on
replacing it with a new unit I found the same Lucas part on a Mini in a
scrap yard. People will probably reply saying that the Mini headlight
dip/beam unit will not fit over the DeLorean steering column which is true
but the plastic clip on the Mini switch unit is the same and can be put into
the DeLorean switch. The only difference I found was that the piece of
plastic was yellow rather than orange.
There are a couple of springs in the switch unit when you take it apart but
if you take it apart slowly nothing should fly anywhere, it is one of those
jobs you want to do at the breakfast table rather than in the work shop.
On the first page of my home page www.dmc12.co.uk you can see the orange
transplanted component I did document the job in great detail but sadly I
have lost the pictures.
Anyway hope this helps.

They pop up from time to time in auto trader for sale. In person I
have only seen them from a distance, never up close. Very nice looking
cars. From what I've seen on the internet, they do have a following of
owners. The SVX seems to also have a few minor quirks like the
DeLorean does, but nothing that is too serious. Interior looks nice
and comfortable as well.
Thought about buying one before, but I just could never find one with
a manual transmission...

I'm not sure about the 2-key-cars, but the key on my car is
symmetrical, so you'd only have to scan one side...
I happened to stumble upon another GREAT possibility:
when I bought my car, all I got was 2 worn copies.
They worked quite well, but looked terrible.
Since I'm still working out technical bits 'n pieces I didn't
want to spend $24,95 on a key just yet, so I asked a local
locksmith for a copy with a plastic head, just so it would
look better on my keyring (call it vanity if you will...)
What happened then was a big surprise to me:
het took out his "Book of Keys" with an actual match for the
DeLorean key in it and clamped my "original copy" in a
touch-scanner... He was able to determine the ORIGINAL
cuttingsequence for my car!
I got a nice, SHARP key, which woked instantly. The ignition
works even better with this NEW key than it did with the keys
I had! (on the doors too, but I don't really use those because
of the remote on my alarm system.
In fact I was so satisfied that I bought a second one as a
spare; I didn't even have to bring an original:
he had been so kind as to write down the sequence-number for me.
Total costs for two keys including cutting was less than $13,-
I'm in the Netherlands, so I'm not sure if it can be of any
help to anyone outside Europe, but if anyone wants, I can
go check out what kind of machine they used...

PS. If you can't bring your car to the locksmith for testing
the keys, bring along the lid for the box behind the driversseat!

With all this talk about the Hummer-lights and all;
HOW exactely do the function?
On a D the middle position is off, forward is doors
and backward is allways on, does the Hummer-light work?
I'd like to have a light that lights when the doors open
on the middle position, this way the light is more flush
with the rest of the roof.
Forward en backward don't really matter, since thats just
a matter of inserting the light the other way.
We've had a Citroen BX at home that had this,
but those lights don't seem to fit...
That it wouldn't be stock doesn't matter to me:
my car isn't stock anymore anyway...

Assuming that the locks work together to lock and unlock eachother no matter
which one you use, there is something wrong with ours.
Before working on the window regulator, everything worked right (except for
the window.) So after we fixed that, we put most of the trim and stuff on,
and decided to try everything in case something was wrong. Well, now we
cannot lock the passenger side, but the passenger side can lock and unlock
the driver side. Also, the driver side can unlock when the passenger side is
locked.
We looked around at everything, and couldn't find anything wrong.
Any ideas???

Subject: Door light question
Light switches work fine, all the door lights go out, door open warning
light comes on with doors closed (ignition on, of course). Also
involved, courtesy delay circuit doesn't work, courtesy lights stay on
all the time, even with delay unit pulled. I can't see why on the
diagram, any clues? Would have to be a ground between the diodes, would
it not, but how could that be?

Subject: upper roof seal replacement
Hi all,
I'm thinking of replacing both upper door/roof seals. I've seen a
post or two in the archives about this, but I was hoping someone
could give me a few more pointers than what was said. I know that
going to far with the drill will end in disaster, but other than that
what do you suggest? What tools are best to use? Are those rivets
Stainless Steel (should I get them from DMC Houston)?
Also, exactly how important are they? I assume they can't totally
prevent water from entering the torsion bar area, so is it ok to get
lots of water in there? Mine are pretty much gone, so I'm avoiding
any water for now.

in case anyone is interested, i'm not trying to make a big profit off of
these, but if anyone would like them, they're up for grabs:
1. OEM lock module. a couple of fried wires on the harness, but if you know
what you are doing, you can fix it up so it won't cause problems with your
locks. OR, just take it and try to do something original with it. it works
perfectly, at least it did when i took it out a couple weeks ago. $10 shipped
takes it.
2. one heavy duty window regulator. used. This was in my driver's side door
and worked just fine when i took it out. i bought a new pair of motors from
PJ Grady since i was in my doors anyway, and thought i'd change all this old
stuff out. well i found this upgraded one in the driver's side but i
replaced it anyway since i had new stuff! it works just fine, but it is
shipped as is. $35 shipped takes this one.
if no one here replys in a couple days, i'll put 'em on ebay. but the list
gets first dibbs. reply privately please.

YES! I was wondering why someone else on the DML hadn't paid much attention
to the SVX. Actually, I had the SVX first and then wound up with the
DeLorean. I live in Colorado and the SVX is the perfect all-weather sports
car. Size-wise it reminds me allot of the Trans Am I used to own. It's
also practical, reliable, and comfortable. I feel the SVX was one of the
most underrated cars of all time.
PS I notice your D's VIN is very close to mine.
