Well, with all of these people posting about local owners getting
together, I figure now would be a better time than ever to mention what
I have been planning. As I stated to the folks on my local Minnesota
list, I plan to have a gathering sometime this spring. Well, since then

I'd encourage you East Coast DMCers to take Brad up on his offer. I went to
W.Virginia in June,2000 to a motorcycle Rally in Marlinton and had a blast.
The roads were smooth 'twisties', no traffic, and gorgeous countryside. The
Police had never seen a N.Irish or HongKong driving licence before and gave
up writing this Foreign Biker a ticket for 92mph on top of the mountains.
Food was excellent, interesting 'hillbilly' culture (driving pickups and
shooting bears), and fresh, fresh air. It was GREAT!

THE WEB PAGE IS BACK UP AND RUNNING (thanks Gary)
I just wanted to take a few minutes to update everyone on the Memphis show.
I know its a long way off still but there were a number of people that said
they did not know about the Cleveland Show and would I please update the list
more often.
My wife and I went to Memphis this past weekend to check out the events and
top sign the contracts. We were treated wonderfully by everyone and had a
great time.
We also stayed at the Heartbreak Hotel at Graceland.
The Hotel
Our room was really nice. We had the King with the fold away sleeper in the
other room. I travel a lot and this is one of the nicer rooms I have been
in. The Lobby is all Elvis. The tv shows, movies etc everything. The
people at the desk are great also.
ONE NOTE: Included in the room charges will be a complimentary continental
breakfast each morning.
We reviewed the program and where we will be having the events and a note
here that if the number of people increases fromt the estimated amount we
will be able to move things around to accomodate. Saturday night will be the
tightest.
I met Jeff in Tennesee and he an his wife are very nice and will be the ones
doing the driving tour part.
It looks as though we will be expanding the Thursday event and I will be
updating you on that later. We will be starting in the late morning instead
of evening if things go well so keep that in mind.
The Hollywood Casino is Grand. We had a great time there and the room is
huge so no problems here.
One thing we did makes sure to do was the Gospel Brunch on Beale Street
Sunday. Make sure you sign up for this one. Food was very good and the
singers Heavenly (lol).
I have a ton of pictures and will be posting some soon.

Michael,
The fuel senders in the tank have a high failure rate, and is the most likely
cause of your problem. I don't think there is any relation to the previous
owner disconnecting the battery.
The sender is very easy to get to, and replace. You can also take the
opportunity to check the condition of the rubber hoses in the fuel tank.
You can either try and locate or original (working) fuel sender unit and risk it
breaking again, or go with a "Tankzilla" sold by many DeLorean vendors including
PJ Grady (See http://www.pjgrady.com), and DMC Joe (Dont have his URL handy, but
he posts to the DML all the time!).
Although I don't know your mechanical abilities, the replacement procedure is
very low on the scale of difficulty and can be done without getting under the
car. While you could ship the car to one of the well known DMC mechanics, I
think it would be unnecessary for such a small repair. Both PJ Grady and DMC
Joe will help you over the phone if necessary.

NO!!! Dont use BRILLO or any Steel Wool product on the stainless. If you need
to remove light scratches use a scotch-brite pad, and stay WITH the grain in
straight lines. You are essentially re-scratching the stainless in the correct
direction to remove the visible incorrect scratch.

There was just (another) long thread on this topic. You may have broken circuit
boards in the tail lights. Remove the lenses, and check the boards. You may
want to flex them a bit and see if they come on with movement. If they do, then
you have the classic problem with the rivets coming loose on them. Some have
had luck with soldering the sockets to the board, or adding a nut/bolt through
each rivet to tighten them up. The permanent fix it to replace them with a
improved board design. You can purchase the improved tail lamp boards from a
number of vendors.

DeLorean Parts suppliers, for some time now, are of excellent quality. I too
have installed a pair I purchased from PJ Grady a few years ago.

The engine is a PRV. As I understand it (anybody jump in here if I'm
wrong), DeLorean Motor Company had their contract with Renault to supply

The most common symptom of a defective impulse coil is that the engine will
shut off after it is up to temperature and will not re-start until the
engine completely cools down. If the "no start" problem is related to a
failure of the impulse coil there is no way to "hot wire" the high voltage
section of the ignition system.
Additionally, FYI Knut was refereeing to the ignition coil not the impulse
coil.

Fred Lockett is long gone and so is his parts inventory. There is no "off
the shelf" converter by-pass. Take your DeLorean to a reputable service
dealer who works on performance and or racing cars. You might even find a
local muffler shop that can do the job. Play it smart and get several (at
least three) evaluations and estimates before you make a final decision.

Steve,
There is not an error in the wiring diagram concerning the cooling fan
circuit. The fan motors are powered from the battery and the factory
installed Fan Fail relay is activated by the run relay. You are correct
about the fact that most cars cooling fans ('s) will continue to run after
the ignition is turned off. The Fanzilla works in a similar fashion but
overrides the factory design to allow the fans to turn off sequentially even
after the ignition is turned off.

Sorry to get so excited about the control arm. We just do not want
anyone confusing the the arms we are fabricating with a ford refab.
This is not a "top secret" mission or anything, we just are not

Walt writes about original Tail light boards:
I still am not happy with relying on the OEM connectors. Lead solder makes
for a terrible friction connection, and this is exactly what the OEM boards
use -- although I haven't heard of these giving anyone any problems.
The best fix would be to use the new boards since they have gold plated
connectors instead of the OEM tin/lead solder.
By the way, are these new tail light boards a Zilla product?

Dave Bauerle here in Ohio sells some hard-to-find fixes, including
remanufactured steering racks. Though I have never asked him, he might be able
to get remanufactured control arms, too. It cannot hurt to ask. I suggest that
you give him a call at (740) 595-3348.
If he can get them, please let the rest of us know.

NEWS FLASH
While it has been implied that FanZilla doesn't "relieve" the load to the
car's main power relay
THE FACT IS
The Fans DO NOT RUN THROUGH the car's Main Ignition Switched Power Relay.
Hence, the Main Power Relay doesn't need to be "relieved".
Further, in nearly 20 years Rob Grady is hard pressed to remember a single
instance when he's had to replace a MAIN Power relay.
( It is important to understand : The Main Ign Switched Power Relay is NOT
the same as the cooling fan relay. )
FanZilla can run the fans even with the engine off and the key removed.

No
Only the FanZilla system controller can do this.
Clearly, this was intended in the original design of the car.
The DeLorean has a sticker on the fan shroud alerting you to this.
Intelligent Fan system control was accommodated in the car's original wiring
but not implemented in production.
There were many things DMC just didn't get to do.
Imagine what they would have done if they were still around today ?
SCHEMATIC ERROR
The complete schematic of the car is correct relative to the fan wiring.
The Single page break out schematic is wrong.
One final note:
When both Cooling Fans switch on and off together a HUGE spike is created on
the power grid. This is cut in half with FanZilla's sequenced cycling.
WARNING TO ALL OWNERS
The Idea of removing one fan from service to reduce the electrical load &
spike is an accident waiting to happen. Failure of the remaining fan would
not be pretty. Operation on hot days with a single fan WILL run the engine
hotter than it needs to be.

while we are on the subject of door handles. Does anybody else get a
couple of little scuff marks on the stainless above the door handle?
It happens on my car when the door handle is pulled it makes contact
with the door skin causing scuff marks in the stainless. Is there a
way to adjust the door handle mechanicals so the handle doesn't
contact the stainless? The scuff marks will come out with a little
work from a scotchbright pad, but I thought that I'd like to prevent
them from happening in the first place.

instead of buying the 'keyed' firtrees, i found it much easier to find some
by HELP! which have two discs at the top. with tin snips, i broke off 1/3 of
the smaller disc on the tip of it, and then i was able to twist it into the
door panels. pretty painless, and i was able to buy as many as i needed at
my local Checker Auto.

Top of Page 7, JZD talks about a link between Lotus and GM. As we all know,
Lotus had a huge role in the design of the DMC.. Seems like a conflict of
interest for GM, now the accusations of "missing money" for Lotus makes some
sense..
Top of Page 11, "British Sickness"? The context implies that Sir Cork is a
homosexual. Although I have never heard this term before, it seems politically
incorrect.. I guess JZD does not care.
In general, this looks like a legal document. Is this something JZD was using
(or has used) for legal action? Or was this something he wrote to try and
publicize "his story"..
If he is just trying to clear his name, he should write another book, and get on
the talk show circuits to sell it. IMHO.
Id love to get this in a printable format (PDF?), it would be great to hand out
at car shows when people ask if JZD is still in jail. :)

I would love to get together with local owners. I live in Woodbridge
Va. (about 20 miles south of Washington D.C.). Drives in the country
and meals at interesting diners are nice, but I think that I am more
inclined to attend more technical meetings. You know, when we all get
together and adjust doors, make small repairs or otherwise work on our
cars and maybe include a bar-b-que at the end of the day.

If I am not mistaken, the PRV was a joint effort between Peugeot, Renault,
and Volvo to build a decent V6 engine that they could all use in their
respective cars. The development was mostly volvo's effort while the other
two pitched in. In the end I believe they were all manufactured by Volvo.
I will have to check on this though. I work at a Volvo dealer and they will
definately know.
