This sounds like the setup that De Lorean Motor Company sells for
$229. Includes "non-sealed beam headlights" and xenon boosted bulbs.
Wattage is a concern for the stock wiring. Several DML'ers have
installed this kit in their DeLoreans.

We just installed an aftermarket HID headlight setup in our "test"
car, and while it's going to be mighty expensive, the pure white/blue
light is really cool.

DeLorean values from Sports Car Market 2001 edition Pocket Price
Guide... (http://www.sportscarmarket.com)

1981-1983               $15,000-22,500

In the back, they also add these comments:

"Moving slowly from the low teens to the upper teens, average
DeLoreans will creep past the $20K mark sometime this decade. It
takes a truly perfect car to bring over $25K."

I have an Optima battery in my DMC - have had it for nearly 4 years.  It
is, however, no longer unique.  Exide has apparently bought rights to
manufacture a similar battery - gel cell, fully sealed, both top and side
posts on the same battery, etc.  Moreover, Exide makes the NAPA batteries
and they also offer the "Optima" style/type battery.  The NAPA price is
about $30 less than the Optima.

Not a plug - just information for those who might be interested.

Subject: Computer Modeling...

Hi gals and guys,

I am currently in a senior engineering computer modeling course that
analyzes the stresses, strains, and surface interactions of objects.
The course uses ANSYS computer modeling for those who are
interested.  At any rate, I was wondering if any of you had an idea
of a part from the Delorean that you would like us to try to model.
It would need to be something geometrically simple, or something we
could represent as a simple computer model.  This could be like a
hinge or a structural piece (no crankshafts, torque converters,
etc.). Anyway, I thought someone out there might have an idea of
something that we could practice on, and if you do, please feel free
to contact me via email at:  jschwab(at)utk.edu.   What I would need
is a sketch of the part, with dimensions, force loading (which
directions is it stressed and roughly how much), and the material it
is made of (stainless, aluminum, steel etc.).  Email me if you have
any ideas and you think you could help me with obtaining a sketch of
the part.  Thanks.

The idea behind computer modeling (for those who are interested) is
to see what areas of the part are highly stressed, then improvements
in the design can be made to reinforce these stressed areas.

Roger,
I also emailed Covercraft almost immediately after your email hit
the list and got the same reply.  It seemed amazing to me that
all ten could have gone so quickly, but I never thought that one
person would make a bulk order.  I hope they don't show up on Ebay.

As one who has had two DeLoreans with twin turbo's (and not TOTALLY happy
with the results), I am interested in the "new" engine.  What I'd like to
hear is just what the modifications consist of, and the offsets to such an
engine "hop-up".

I have no intention to try a do-it-yourself modification.  I'd just like to
know what is involved in the modifications.  Obviously, the very
restrictive exhaust is modified.  Perhaps the fuel management is modified
ala the approach described on the UK DMC club page.  However, they acheive
only 167 HP.  So, is the engine ported and relieved?  Is there a cam
modification?  Or???

Then, once the changes are know, what is the impact on, say, idling, engine
heating, fuel consumption, etc.  I'm not trying to be negative; in fact,
I'm excited about the prospects.  It's just that since the engine has been
dyno tested and both HP and torque figures are being released, it seems to
me that details of the modifications should be easy to explain so that
anyone considering the swap could make a fully informed decision.

Group, Joe is correct that a battery would take a tremendous amount
of jarring to cause the battery to hop around, But times over the
tracks, pot holes, curbs and continued (vibration) from an unsecure
battery will cause the battery to go bad faster. If you don't believe
me, then tell me how many of you have had a battery go bad from a
dead cell and you were stranded and the battery was in the car less
than two years. Any body that works on cars will tell you, if there
not trying to sell batteries to strap/bolt it down. When I was in the
electronics business, I called on Globe Union in Garland,Tx. and they
told me what I'm telling you. The information isn't unfounded. It's
from experience. Just trying to help some of us,to not add another
thing to the list of the De Lorean's stranding you/me.

Group / James. In the engine upgrades I have been watching and
listening the discussions back and fourth and I recently started
emailing/talking to a man in the U.K. where the emissions is less
stringent. Where I live they don't check emissions. With a few
modifications he told me about and done by professionals, headers,
bored out injectors, re adjust the air flow mixture, no cat., no
lambda/sensor, and free flowing exhaust they are getting out he said
about 167 hp +/-. My question/statement is??? ( if ) the
catalitc/emissions system can't be messed with in the U.S.
then DMC Houston engine is wonderful at 200+/- HP. that's about
$71.00 per hp. and the cost is nominal for the upgrade and I assume
warranted engine. Adding another 30 H.P. costing $167.00 per hp. is
even better but you are reaching deminishing return and still be
street legal. My old days with the Cherry Bomb muffler's on vet's and
headers are gone. U.K. also pointed out, that a blue printed engine,
modified cam, unsupercharged engine in a replicated car was doing
260HP. street legal in the U.K. how would you like to drive that. Can
the DMC Houston upgrade be put in my turbo De Lorean, which has
already had the pistons modified and no telling what else.

Well, well, well…

Look who made page 4 of the main section of the East Valley Tribune
yesterday!  As I’ve already mentioned in a post, the Second DeLorean Motor
Company Tech Day at Mesa Auto Works was a huge success, drawing 15 cars (a
record for the Arizona club).  I’ve uploaded a scan of the article to the
eGroups Vault.  It’s a .jpg file called  tribune012101 .  Here’s a direct
link:  http://www.egroups.com/files/dmcnews/tribune012101.jpg

Another round of huge thanks go out to Stephen Wynne, James Espey, and Bill
Morgan from DeLorean Motor Company and Stan Davis of Mesa Auto Works for
hosting the event.

The last battery I had installed in my car before I sold it was simmilar (or
the same. . .can't remember).  Theoretically you could drill a hole through
it, and it would not leak.  Supposedly some type of gel inside, as opposed
to the typical nice caustif "stuff".

Tyler, want to take a peak and see what type it is?

True, but if you get the Optima Battery (Red Top one) it's built to
take the abuse. Not to mention that you can even install it
upsidedown if you wanted to

well the following comes to mind.

1) The stage 1 product is just getting ready to be available and
there will be some likely backorder.
2) 200hp is enough for some.
3) Stage 2 is a good bit off and some people can't wait that long for
only another 30 hp. Stage three is likely much more of a wait and who
knows what the hp will be.
4) Stage 2 is likely to be a good bit more expensive then stage 1
already is. Stage there will likely be even more.

and number

5) You can always just keep waiting for the next improvement. At some
point you have to cash out and get something.

Personally I'll be waiting for a stage 2 or 3 or but a used 1 or 2
car when the 2 or 3 comes out.

Jeremy

James,
Thanks for posting the inter-office memos.
The cars in this VIN range 2654-6999, are listed as having no antenna.
Mine, 2981, came with a fixed mast antenna on the right front fender.  Am I
to assume that when the memo says no antenna, that means that an antenna was
not installed at the factory.
