If the alternator is dead along with the battery, he might be able to
jump start it and get it to run but the engine may stall or not run
properly (and possibly mistaking the problem as a serious one) due to
that the battery dosen't have a strong charge and the alternator not
supplying any voltage.
I don't suggest you leave the jumpers between the two cars connected
after you get it running to test the electrical on the D since that
will put the alternator on the other car under a higher load than it
might be able to handle! The only way to go here if you don't want to
buy an alternator, assuming the battery is good and will hold a
charge, is get the battery charged at a local garage to it's full
capacity. That should give you enough juice to start it, let it run,
test the electrical (windows, door locks, etc) and possibly drive it
around the block.

So far everyone has given you some good advice, but I suggest a different
strategy. Don't do a thing to make the car run except turning the
ignition
key. If you try to fix the car up before you buy it, then the price will
go
up accordingly. Be a consumer and not a mechanic when you negotiate a
price. If the owner cared enough to get a better price for his car, then
he
would keep it in running condition and not abandon it on some used car
lot.
I would make an offer based on the fact that the car is not in running
condition and that it will (or may) take a considerable investment to make
the it run. If the guy wants more, then ask HIM to make it roadworthy
first.
It is interesting that the car would have such high mileage. 117K?
That's
a lot for a Delorean. If the car was able to be driven this many miles,
then it must have had extensive work done to fix most of the major
Delorean
specific problems over this much time. It is also interesting that the
body
is in such good condition. It sounds like it was owned by someone who
really took care of the car -- especially to get such high mileage out of
it. It sounds more likely to me that the car has only 17K miles on it.
You might try to find out the history on the car. I checked Carfax, and
it
has no data available on VIN SCEDT26T0BD002144 (This is the correct VIN
for
#2144) It is typical for Carfax to not have data on cars depending on
where
and when the vehicle has been registered. Florida is very good about
getting data into Carfax, so since it's not listed, I'm suspicious that it
is not a Florida car. Perhaps it came from a nearby state since Pensacola
is near the border. Is there a license plate on the car? Are there any
inspection stickers in the windshield? Are there any papers in the car
that
give some history? Be sure to check in the hidden compartment behind the
driver's seat. You will need the ignition key to unlock it. There is no
telling what you may find.

Ben, I don't know alot about how to get the thing running, etc., but
it doesn't sound like it would be that expensive to get it into
running condition, assuming everything else with the engine is
decent. Although I'm not an expert on pricing, $14.5 might be a bit
too much, but $10k sounds about right. I only say this because I
recently bought a high mileage DeLorean for 8k, but it needs alot
of interior and some other work. But if the interior on the one
you're looking at is pretty good, then I would say 10k for it is not
bad, and just fix other stuff as it appears. I would make sure to
check if the radio and the air work. If they both do then 10k would
be a good deal.
But again, I'm not an expert so I may be mistaken on this either way.
Just wanted to throw my two cents in, :)

Before you give up completely on that plastic, take a look at some of the
plastic modeling web sites (try www.finescale.com as a starting point). A
common problem for aircraft models is scratches in the clear canopy
pieces. These can be sanded out - modeling sandpaper is available in
grits of 1200, 2400, and even higher, IIRC. I've never actually done this
myself, I just vacuform a replacement canopy, but maybe one of the
modeling sites will have some tips and techniques for you. I do know that
you can remove all but the deepest scratches this way. If the melt spots
on your plexi aren't too deep (and they should be fairly shallow), you may
be able to recover your current plexi. Of course, you'll still have to
figure out how to remove it...

miles is VERY high for a DeLorean! When I bought my first DMC in 1998 I
was
many with only 25k to 30k miles. I bought a 100% perfect grey interior,
manual, no gas flap, '81, with 28k miles for only $10,500.oo in Los
Angeles!
