Subject: Good News Story

The Cleveland 2000 show was great.

Hats off to Ken K. and all of the others who helped pull this show together.

Is it a bad sign when you know the words to all of the songs that were
played in the movies that documented rock in roll?  The Rock in Roll Hall of
fame was very cool.

Many thanks to Bruce Battles and his family for hosting us at there home
last Wednesday.  Bruce was towing a trailer and I followed behind in my car.
I don't think that I would have been able to avoid speeding tickets if I was
not able to pace myself behind Bruce.  My Delorean cruises its best at 75
MPH.

Meeting John DeLorean and getting his autograph was very cool.  He
autographed his book for my son Alan.  John Delorean also autographed the
glovebox lid while it was in the car (Thanks Bruce Battles for the photo
documenting this).  The judges had just finished with my car as John
Delorean was walking past.  I explained that I was unable to remove the lid
because of the judging and John Delorean did not hesitate to climb in and
sign.

The caliber of cars at this show was exceptional, I truly enjoyed seeing the
cars and meeting the owners and fellow list members.

I was shocked that we won FIRST place in the 20K-30K class.  I had driven
the car 1000 miles from Mobile, in the rally, through the deluge Friday
night and spent 4 hours cleaning Saturday morning.

I tried to get my wife to tell her hard luck story Saturday night.  She was
at the airport Friday morning 0630, various flight cancellations and weather
delays prevented her from getting to the hotel until 2215 Friday night.  (I
still would have voted for the guy who drove without AC, what a stud)

I would also like to thank Steve Seltzer of Gainesville for his electrical
engineering expertise in helping trouble shoot a cooling fan problem that
manifested itself during the rally.

Monday on the way back home, my son and I stopped in Bowling Green KY.
While driving around the Corvette Factory a gentleman flagged us down.  This
man just wanted a close look at a car that he has admired since it was
introduced.  This man was the Mayor of Bowling Green and he works at the
Corvette Factory.  It was a pleasure talking with Eldon Renaud and best of
luck to him in his search for a DeLorean.  The Corvette Factory tour and
Corvette Museum were well worth the time.

To sum it up, this was a fantastic trip and experience.  But what made it
all really worthwhile was that my son Alan told me that he will always
remember the long trip we took in the DeLorean.

Someone this past weekend asked me whether or not Patrick Swayze
owned a DeLorean, and the best that we've been able to determine is
that, yes, he still owns one.

Which got me to thinking about other "celebrity" DeLorean owners...I
had heard that David Prowse owned or owns a DeLorean. David Prowse
was the actor inside the Darth Vader costume in the Star Wars films
(though James Earl Jones did the voice). Our records *do* show that a
David Prowse at one time owned VIN 01955, but I have yet to verify
that it is the same David Prowse.

Anyone know of any others?

To top Cleveland all we need is for Ken to get two people:
    - Micheal J. Fox
    - Christopher Lloyd

I'd imagine their schedules are pretty busy, but that would be
pretty cool to get them to the show.  Especially to draw all the
BTTF fanatics out there!
Oh yeah and bring back JZD, Mark, Kathryn, Katherine and Katherine!
:-)  After all, it just wouldn't be a true DeLorean show without them
anymore.
Again, thanks Ken for an unbelievable show!  I'll never forget it.

Cliff,

The coat hanger items you are describing are spring retainers, there purpose
is to hold the baffle firmly to the bottom of the tank. If they are not
installed the baffle will lift off the bottom of the tank, this will cause
hesitation during acceleration especially when the tank is less than 1/4
full. Constant movement of the baffle could cause the stud at the bottom of
the tank to break, this would require replacing the entire fuel tank.

No special instructions on replacing the fuel filter.

this is kind of related subject matter. the other day i ran into a guy
working on a dodge Monaco (not sure of the year).and sure enough, it had a
prv engine in it. it said 3.0 and was VERY similar to the stock dmc engine.
the main difference that i could see was that it had electronic fuel
injection and the distributor was mounted on the front of a valve cover(easy
to get to!). my question is, has anyone had experience with this engine? does
it make a little more power than the dmc mill? will it 'bolt right up' ? ive
driven these cars in the past unaware of the engine they had, and they seem
pretty peppy.any input?

Hi everyone:
Sorry we missed the Cleveland festivities! I've got a little item that
you can file under the heading "For the Delorean Owner who (thinks) he has
everything". My wife is redoing our bathroom and has started on the tile. I
remarked that the grout she was using was a nice pleasing color and she said
: "It's Delorean grey". I told her that was nice and she stopped working and
said again, holding up the bag of grout mix: "No, I mean it really is
Delorean grey!"  Sure enough! I looked at the bag from a company called
Custom Building Products and the color printed on the bag was, indeed,
DELOREAN GREY! I wonder if JZD is getting any royalties from this product?
Hmmmm? (It was purchased at Home Depot, for any of those interested in
redoing their bathrooms!) De Miller, Kansas City.

be great publicity for the awareness of PD.  with all those BTTF

The DeLorean gets the least power out of the PRV of any car I know of,
unfortunately.  :}

Regarding potential swaps to other PRV's, I wouldn't suggest it.  The
DeLorean PRV has some external modifications so that it fits efficiently
in the rear mounted configuration.  It would probably be easier than
swapping in an entirely unrelated engine, but on the other hand, if you're
looking at a maximum of 260HP, you have less potential gain.

Most of the other higher performance PRV's will have: Better fuel
injection, freer intake and exhaust, better manifolds, more aggressive cam
timing, higher compression, forged pistons, and of course, turbochargers
(not at the same time as higher compression).  The DeLorean, like so many
other cars of the era, trades off performance for better emissions and
fuel economy.

Although I don't really know, I have a hunch that these types of upgrades
are how DMC-Houston is getting 180+ HP out of a plain old DeLorean PRV.

In my estimation, finding and adapting all these parts from a better
performing PRV would cost just as much as having DMC Houston do it.
Unless you're just looking for the challenge, or you want Even More Power,
I wouldn't bother with it.

only heard of one being sold since, but several Casino
owners/executives  here in Las Vegas own a few. Most of these cars
were "slot prizes". Out of all the DeLorean's won in casinos, only 2
people elected to keep the cars, the rest took the cash equivilent.
But rather than the norm of sending the car back to the dealership to

not the type of celebrities you expected, but one of many unusual

The Venturi has a similar 2.8 block but is even-firing compared to the DMC's
odd-firing setup!!

The engine I think would theoretically fit, but the cost factor becomes the
significant issue from this point......

Lotus told me £10,000 would pay for the twin-turbo V8 as fitted to the
current Espirit models.  The layout is the same and thus should fit.
However the rotation of the gearbox is the opposite to the DMC.  The cost of
fitting this method would of course be additional........

For $20000/£12000 the 300hp Northstar has been tried and tested
successfully.

The 200hp+ 'Houston' route seems to be extremely cost effective..... The
dyno testing for stages 2 and 3 (next year???) will certainly be something
to look forward
too!!!!

Just something to think about.....

I too had some interesting problems.  We took two cars to the show, the
DeLorean and a "regular" car.  I have not recharged the A/C in the D, so the
plan was to drive the other car all weekend and only drive the D up to the
show and back ( about 2 hours each way).  However, it turned out that the
casette player is broken in the other car, so we ended up doing the road
ralley in the D with NO A/C (very hot trip - black interior).

Then, Friday night, on the way to the auto museum (in the rain) the car
overheats (not the D).  So, I thought I could avoid driving my car in the
rain, but no luck.  In fact, I had to walk, jog and hitch about 3-4 miles
back to the garage to get the D to make it to the museum.  We finally made
it to the show ( not too late either).

So the next morning I was working on the other car for several hours, after
searching for tools from everyone.  (I did borrow some from another owner -
sorry I forget your name - But thanks!)  Eventually I get the other car
going and make it back to the show to find the judges on the car right next
to mine.  Mine is still covered from the rain and mess from the night
before.  I would have washed it, but I was working on the other car!!!
Anyway, the guy next to me was in the same class and I'm not sure how great
his car really was, but sitting next to mine, it looked REALLY good.  In
fact he took 2nd place.

But amid all of the commotion, I sought help from Ken in finding tools.  He
made some suggestions and then offered that if I needed to go get anything,
I could take his truck and go!!!  Wow, even though I did not borrow his
truck, I really do appreciate that he would offer to let me use it.  (I had
never met Ken in person prior to this)  Ken put on a great show and is a
great person.
Thanks, Ken
