After a weekend of seeing nothing but Deloreans (great job Ken!), the
entire ride home, I thought I saw them all over the road.  A double take
usually verified that what I saw was not a Delorean.  One time, It even
turned out to be a silver mini-van!!  (It was dark, I was tired, yadda
yadda yadda..)

The funny thing is, about 1 mile from my house, on Rt 516 in Old Bridge,
New Jersey I really did see another Delorean!  (Sunday Night) It was
going the opposite direction, so I did not get a good look at it.  A
glance in the rear view mirror confirmed that it was a Delorean.  (After
staring at the back of one for the 10 hour ride to Ohio, I am sure I
know what one looks like!)

Is this person on the list??

Subject: DML: The Best Vacuum Cleaner for a DeLorean?

Over the weekend at the Car Show, my car probably had the lowest
possible score for cleanliness (I didn't check, because I didn't want to
know).  The reason is simple: I haven't vacuumed my interior since last
summer!

In past years I borrowed a Shop Vac from my wife's parents, who lived
nearby, when I cleaned my DeLorean every weekend.  But last fall when
we finally got married we moved 40 miles away from them and I haven't
vacuumed the DeLorean since.

We have been very busy these last few months settling into our new
house.  We already had an upright vacuum, so a vacuum for the
DeLorean just hadn't come up as a priority.  Well, now it has!

This week I am going to buy a vacuum whose sole purpose is to clean
my DeLorean interior.  What does everyone recommend for those
hard-to-reach places, like behind the parking brake lever?  Should I get a
Shop Vac?  A Dirt Devil?  A Dust Buster?  A Kirby?

All suggestions welcome, especially from first-place concourse winners!

Ron,

I don't know.  I was hoping someone would answer that for me.  I did
notice about 6 or 7 cars at the car show that also had the clips.  So, I'm
somewhat sure it wasn't just an idea of a previous owner of the 82 car
I am working on.  I don't see them in the parts manual.

I use the "CLUB".  I park it if at all possible in plain sight of where
ever I am going, store, restraint etc.

Mostly people just look at it and maybe touch it to see what it feels like.

No one has ever attempted to open the door.

I have often thought that the worst car in the world to steal would be a
DMC. They stick out like a sore thumb in traffic and parking lots etc.

You may want to consider some sort of "wet vac" vacuum that can suck up
water as well as dirt.  Hopefully you don't need this option, but if your
car leaks, or if you're A/C leaks like mine, I know this would be a nice
option to have :)

Subject: DML: DeLorean Desktop Theme Q & A's

There's a couple things I'd like to address to some of the questions
on the DeLorean Desktop Theme that have been posted.

- -I fixed the link to the patch. It was fixed about one day after I
posted the message that it was out.

- -Due to the fact that I do not have a Mac I can't produce a DeLorean
Theme. But I did just come up with an idea on how to do it. Anyone who
has a Mac and would like to help me make a theme, please write to me and
we'll plan something out. Hopefully we can make a theme that is an exact
copy of the Win '95 version.

- -DMC Patch: Go to your desktop and click your right-mouse button, select
properties, and then click the backgrounds tab. You will have five or
six different DeLorean related backgrounds to choose from.

I stand by my desktop theme and will gladly answer any of your
questions, I hope to write a FAQ by the weekend. As more questions come
up I will post the answers.
Sorry it took long to reply, I subscribe to the digest version of

The Cincinatti Delorean Regional Event was one of the best car club
shows our family has been to.  We have been to Camaro Nationals,
Metropolitan Nationals, Oldsmobile Nationals, and others.  Ken did one of
the best jobs ever..... and he was only one person!!!!

(Does this support the theory that management by committee is not
always the best?)

Great Food!

The Museum's site was excellant for displaying the cars.  We also find
the architecture from the 30's so unique and interesting.  It is found
in only a few locations in the country and the stories behind these
WPA projects are an important piece of history.

The sadest thing was the JZD was not there.

Maybe we could start a letter writing campaign to get him to come to the
20th anniversary year 2000 event. =20

Maybe the money from the OmniMax theatre could be used to pay JZD to
come in 2000!!!!! =20

This would be the best use of this money I could imagine.
How could he refuse hunderds of letter and money?

Looking forward to seeing everyone in 2000.=20

Fellow DMCer's,
I'll add my thanks to Ken. The show was GREAT!!! It was good to put faces
with
names. Everyone else has put it into words better than I so I'll add this,
If
you own an DMC, Ohio was the place to be!!! Now onto the Hot Wheels subject,
according to Mattel the "Delorean" Hot Wheels  was made in 1981. It is
called
the Turismo. Model number is #1694. It has been made in seven different
colors, the first being red. It looks a little like an DMC. The doors are
not
correct, the hood is longer and un "D" like. The rest of the car favors the
DMC. The model is out of production. Mattel does not plan on any re-issue.
Hope this clears up any questions. And yes, got the rad exchanged and was
home
before midnight.

Well done Ken.  You and your family's great efforts are well respected and
appreciated.
Met alot of great people there.
Too many names to post.
Great Deloreans cars, great owners, great people and great events from the
beginning to the end.
These will be red letter days in my life.
I am pretty sure it will be for many other members as well.
My wife Lai alone with my friend William and his wife Fern who just brought
a
Delorean two weeks ago, also attended this event.
They also enjoyed the whole event.
Well worth the drive from NYC.
It was impressive!!!!!!!!!
The warehouse is an inspiration to know that parts is still there when
needed.
Visiting the warehouse itself was an event in itself!
The caravan of all the Delorean cars that travel from Cincinnati to Columbus
was something else.
It was beyond description.
Anyway, need more of this kind of great events.
The next event the year 2000???
Be there.

Mike,

I use a Wet - Dry 5 Gal. Shop Vac that I got from Wal Mart (about $35)  It
comes with alot of attachments to get those hard to reach places and is very
light.  It also comes in handy for other purposes (since its a wet-dry vac)

Hope this helps,

I'm no first place concourse winner, But I did tie for 3'rd place
20K-30K!  (How, I have no idea!) and I had not vacuumed my interior
since last summer.  I brought the car to the car wash near the hotel and
vacuumed it there.  That seemed to work great!

I do have a small shop vac at home that I use, and I sometimes use the
"tools" from my regular vacuum to get in to those hard to reach places.
It is sometimes even profitable!  It seems that money drops out of my
pocket in to the small space near the hand break!

Does anyone know if the judging sheets will be available for us?  I'd
like to see mine.

totaled & Stripped in a 26 HR period from  the time it was stolen till

It was a sad day that they did not just look.  But from what I hear DMC's
getting stolen are RARE.

Mike & Others,

The GRP shell did not need work (thankfully), as the fire as reported to
me was put out rather quickly buy the owner & a hose.  The majority of
the passenger compartment damage was cosmetic, water, & odor.  The engine
compartment  had no damage, Just dirt, age, and a little mildew.  I had
the engine & trans work done + new gaskets to get them up to par & and to
avoid any repairs from something not up to par, also cheaper to do it all
at once than to have to put the car back up on blocks later to fix it.

There are no plates or hole anywhere on the door sill, door frame, or
door, on either side. Nothing was found inside the doors, also checked
the engine & luggage compartments to find this stamped on the firewall in
the engine compartment top left corner:

8/79
DMC
type II

There was no DMC on the grill nor does it look like there was one.

This car also had/has a light in the battery compartment that turns on
when the cover is removed (nice touch, looks like a factory install as
the light & cover were flush along with the switch and the wiring went to
a connector on the harness {had to make a new connector, and wire it in
to keep this little item}). It also has the power antenna vs the
windshield version.

Hope this might help

Subject: DML: Those Black Wedge Shaped Boxes on my Luggage Rack

Since returning from Cincinnati, I have received several inquiries about
the wedge shaped "luggage" that James and I carried on our luggage
racks.  For old timers, these were the same boxes I described two years
ago after the Nashville trip.

Those are not actually suitcases, they are plastic tool boxes.  They were
made to fit behind the seat of a pickup truck.  I got them two years ago at
WalMart in the *Automotive* Department.  They say "Tuffcase" on the
side and I think they cost $12.97 each.  To make them look good you
need to shine them up with a glossy protectant like  Formula 2001, Armor
All, etc..

They are not completely water tight, so we do not carry clothes in them.
On long trips James and I both carry tools & spare parts in one box and
car cleaning gear in the other.  One of the compartments is the perfect
size for a gallon of antifreeze.

For everyday use I keep one of the cases in my trunk.  Its tapered shape
fits very well and gives me an attractive place to store a lot of stuff yet
still let people look in my luggage compartment at car shows.

Before my next long trip I plan to explore ways to secure them to the
luggage rack without straps or bungees.  That will make them look even
more attractive.

I don't know if WalMart still carries those cases.  I plan to check for
them this weekend and report back next week.

This car seems more and more unusual all the time.  The clues indicate
that it might predate the VIN 500 car.  Maybe it fits into one of the
pre-production or test car categories.  I think I speak for everyone on the
list when I say WE WANT TO SEE THIS CAR!

Could you post pictures somewhere?  If you don't have your own web

The engine compartment light is standard.

The power antenna in the left rear quarter is standard in most cars.
There were some with a fixed antenna in the right front fender as a
quick fix to the terrible windshield antenna.

The lack of the DMC in the grill would indicate a very early car, but
the power antenna (if it is in the left rear quarter) would indicate a
later car.

Does this car have the standard Delorean wheeles? or the prototype
wheeles?  Does it have the prototype window? if 8/79 is a date, this
would be a prototype model.

Subject: DML: Useful web site??

While looking for a source of oil reservoir for my turbos (anyone have a
source for them? I saw the "Motor Trend" car had them in Cincinnati) I
found this page http://www.co.jyu.fi/~rax/autot.htm with what may be
some useful information in modifying out motors.

Some of it is not in english, but take a look anyway.  There is a list
of alternative K-jetronic distributors at
http://www.co.jyu.fi/~rax/k-jet.htm  I am not sure what most of that
stuff means, but it may be a good source of information on alternative
parts to increase performance.

There are also a number of pictures and diagrams that show how the fuel
distributor works.  I did not realize that the big plate under the air
cleaner was really just a MAF!  (What that is what it is on newer
computer controlled cars)

If anyone discovers anything interesting, please share it!

I just removed the instrument cluster today.  There was a red sticker
with 002982 written on it.  My vin is 002981.  Close enough for me as
another possible vin location.

Fellow DMCer's,
After discussing this show with a few of you this weekend, I started making
phone calls. The Matlock show featuring the Delorean is called the Lemon,
its
number is 8801. I called the local Fox station here in Nashville,TN. They
will
not be airing it until sometime in late Oct. I then called Paramount
Pictures
in CA.( they own the series). They are not sure ( we are still working out
the
details) if they will sell me the one show. I ask you fellow members to call
your local Fox station and ask for the programing department. Ask when they
will be airing # 8801. If anyone gets a closer date than Oct. Please let me
know via email at ABatt10347@xxxxxxxx I would like to add this show to my
video collection of Delorean stuff. Thanks......

Hello All,
WOW!1 Thats all I can say.  After making our way home to NE
Ohio from Cincy, my wife and I collapsed and slept for 2 days
(off and on of course), but none the less slept.  I have
owned my car for almost 2 years now and have never seen so
many DeLoreans in one place.  I know that there have been
other shows with more that this, but not too many.  If you
didn't make it, I am sorry I missed you.  It was a great time
for us to meet you all in person.  I would love to swap
pictures with anyone on here.  We took our digital camera and
have about 30 or so pictures saved from the trip.  I will try
to post them to our page as soon as possible.

In case no one knows who we were at the show, we had Lic

Ken, Great job and thanks for making our first show a great

I like this idea of having JZD at the show in 2000. Although it seems to
me that I heard he had been approched several years ago about attending
(appearing)  similer functions but declined. Possibly someone could ask
Ed Bernstin (Delorean 1). He, if anyone most likely would remember how
it went.                              I, for one would cheerfully pay
him whatever it takes for him to sign my dash (although I know of a
couple cases where he gladly obliged  for free). At any rate (literaly),
it would great to have him there.    Dan

getting about 300 hits per day on the web page this weekend.  usually we
have
300 per week.

I'll post winners and scores in a few weeks also.

Hi this is Jim Plamondon from Iowa, Council Bluffs. Right next to Omaha.

I'm having many problems w/ my car.  It is a 81, vin 1746, automatic,
and 16,000 miles on it.  We got it for only 16,000 dollars.
I'm only 16 and have little  money to spend, I have help from my dad.
I have put over 1,500 mile sence we bought in Feb.

when we got it, it didn't like to start hot. After awhile it got slower,
then
died.  I took it to a machinc, he said it was the wire to the fuel pump
was dead.  He tapped it to another and it work.  It was still slow and
didn't start Inertia switch still work w/ the tap wire to the fuel pump.
He cold not do no more to it so I took it to another mechanic.  The 2nd
mechanic said that the reason the car was slow was that the wiring was
all messed up and needed to be fixed. I don't think thats right, but I
could be wrong.

P.S. I have put in fresh gas (the car sat  in  a show room for about
2yrs), new fuses, and new boot that hold the fuel pump.

To: All DML members

There is yet another DMC Internet site open on the Internet. If you would
like to follow the progress of the Limited edition DMC-12 model kit, this
is the sit for you.

The site is not the usual DMC site with the same old pictures displayed.
This site has monthly progress reports on the kit production, d\DMC
cartoons, and other DMC related items like T-shirt designs and cool
pictures like the highway sign  showing a DMC with what may be a bird
perched on an open door.

As time goes on there will be more and more original (new) images and
"stuff" related to the Delorean. There will also be a bulletin board in a
week or so.

To get to the new site:

I had a preset "total-out" on the car.  If they say it's a loss they pay
me 35K.  Different insurance companies have Different polices.  That car
was stolen in '93 and was an 82 5Spd.

My father met John De Lorean in a lighting store a few years ago.  My
fater told him that his son (me) had a DMC-12, and they had a short
discussion about the Turbo modifications.  After John left the store,
the store owner said that John comes in from time to time, and really
does not like to discuss the DMC-12.

My guess would be that he is just being polite to all of the people who
call him, or send him books to sign.  Why would he want to appear at a
show?  No matter how much we love the car, and try to "keep the dream
alive" the fact is that it was a failure, and that's not something John
would want to celebrate (IMHO).

Jim, Pull your fuel pump out and check that the suction hose is not
crimped or collapsed.  Also look at the pickup screen at the end of the
hose.  Have you checked your fuel accumulator and filter yet.  Someone
recently posted a procedure for removing the accumulator.  There are
many troubleshooting posts in the DMCNEWS back issues.

Subject: DML: COLUMBUS WAREHOUSE

Yesterday, I was informed that this past weekends open house at the
warehouse would have been deemed worthwhile for DMC Houston if not for
the blatent theft of many valuable parts.  Security personel witnessed
and identified several people who are responsible for giving us all a
bad name.  Because of this theft, I understand that we will not be
allowed in the warehouse in the future.  These people have ruined it for
all of the rest of us.  Those of you that are responsible for the theft
of the parts should be ashamed of yourselfs.  I would suggest that you
try to make ammends for your crimes and beg forgivness.  Steve was very
generous in allowing us to pick through his inventory like we would at
Walmart.  I'm suprised that you were not arrested on the spot, myself, I
would have had you thrown in jail, which is still an option!
