Last year, I changed my manual tranny fluid. I used Valvoline DuraBlend (semi-synthetic) 80W-90. No problems at all in the past year...tranny synchs well & no real difference in changing gears compared to what I think was original.
A couple notes:
1) The fill & drain plugs are identical & have a 10mm square head on them, requiring a "proper" tool which is a $20-$30 Snap-On or MATCO socket. A good alternative since you will never use this tool socket for anything else: GatorGrip. Got it @ Home Depot for about $12. It's the socket with the pins in it that works on all different size bolts, wingnuts, etc. Pretty good product & made in USA to boot!
2) Might want to consider taking the transmission end cap off & putting Loctite on the 5th gear nut. When these loosen, they drill a hole in the end cap. A little involved, but once you Loctite (red) it, you'll be certain to not have this problem happen.

First, I can't actually find this oil that he said he used. I have looked over the Redline site, and they make some interesting points about manual transmission oil that is "too slippery" being bad since the synchros won't work so well, etc. I note on my car that in cold weather I indeed have that occasional problem. I am contemplating going to more or less the recommended fluid, or maybe a synthetic like Valvoline 85W90.
