I've never heard of any of the cars being converted to electric for the movie. I think one car was sacrificed in order to be connected to a hydraulic boom for hovering shots, and eventually ended up on the sound stage for the tour, but I never heard that rumor. But more to the point, why would someone drive a car on a sound stage? The whole point is supposed to keep everything as stationary as possible. Even if you did need sound effects, that's what Foley artists are for.
I doubt that any one except the studios owns the original movie cars. Not that a situation like this could ever be impossible, but after reading the story of the Black Beauty, and seeing how other studios deal with originals and replica cars from movies, I do seriously doubt anyone has their car on loan. Sounds more like confusion of facts where someone ends up telling me DeLoreans had helicopter engines, and were built in Utah again...
