Living in Phoenix in the summer, I do drive my car (typically not
when it much over 105, but I do). I have been caught in traffic jams,
and did notice that the temperature did rise significantly. I later
replaced all my hoses, and coolant. I added Rob Grady's fan fix
module, and have not really had a problem since. Both fans run (at a
traffic light (you know when you wait 4 or five changes before you
get to go through), constantly when it is 105+ degrees and sitting in
the sun), but the car engine temp stays relatively cool.
I have driven it aross the desert in august as well. no problems.
(Phoenix to LA)
Would I recommend a traffic jam... no... simply because the clutch is
relatively stiff. The only thing I worry about the car about in the
summer here, is whether the AC unit will keep the car interior cool
enough.
TBH, i think that lifting the rear louver would look really funny,
nor do I think it is a good solution, as you do not have anything
pushing the air anywhere. I had thought about attaching two fans on
the underside of the engine bay cover, but never really got around to
it.
