Hi Rich,
I am a Dutch D-owner, living north of Amsterdam.
I have friends living near Frankfurt/Main who wished to see my car.
I drove the car on the Autobahn at an average cruising speed of soem
150 Kms/hr (approx 93 Mph). At some point on my trip I was overtaken
first by a BMW, shortly thereafter by a big Mercedes. Both car owners
challenged me by first overtaking, then driving in front of me,
lowering speed so I had to overtake them to keep my speed.
By the time we did some 165 Kms (102 Mi) I got a little irritated by
their behavior and wanted to show them what an old car like the D
still was worth. I reached 190 Kms (approx 120 Mi) and saw the other
cars get smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror.
I have to admit that the steering did not need any power at that
speed, it felt a way like driving a VW Beetle, one of your countrymen
refered to it as being somewhar squirrely, but not a moment of
feeling unreliable.
I had to go slower then because of speed limits going up and down
mountains.
The experience was a little like "you may have a faster beemer or
merc but if you don't dare going as fast as the car can go, you may
have to give way to a slower car who's driver knows how to drive at
high speed".
Welmoed.
