Over the years this has been a constant sore spot for many. I believe
there are several different causes that make the buzz - some working
together.
My greatest success in reducing the buzz has been to rearrange and add
some separation to the coolant pipes that go under, and by, the fuel
tank. I think this is the greatest source of heat. The goal was to be
sure the pipes do not touch the tank, especially when the tank
pressurizes. I added some pieces of coolant hose around the pipes to
give some separation as the old insulation was rotted and collapsed. It
seems to work. The noise returned shortly after I messed with it so, I
examined it again, and found the hose I used had moved and allowed the
pipe to again touch the tank. I put the hose back in place and secured
it with a plastic tie - the buzz hasn't returned and, I haven't had any
problems or noise in many years. The pump is probably 20 years old.
