[DML] Replacing Carpet myself

My carpet is completely shot. It's original. Anyway playing around
with the interior today I noticed that you could just pull the carpet
out. Any glue has rotted away. I had it all out, except for the floor
because of the seats. I was thinking I could just take out the old
carpet, go to a carpet store, trace the old sections onto new ones,
have it cut and the ends bounded, and insert the new carpet in the
car. It would save a lot of money on labor and would make a fun
weekend past time.
Has anyone done this themselves? My main question is with regard to
the carpet on the side floors. It's held down with the rubber modling
that is secured to the body. How would I take this out and replace it
without a major fiasco?
