[DML] How tight is too tight?

Hello gang.

My car has developed a pretty significant transmission leak and it 
appears to emanate around the pan gasket.  I've hand-tightened the 
bolts securing the pan but that only seemed to have lessened the leak.  
I don't want to strip these bolts but should I use a torque wrench to 
tighten these babies?  If so, how much poundage should I use?
