It is not a good idea to steam clean modern motors. The water will
find it's way into the wrong places and eventually cause problems. If
you want to detail the engine compartment go over to Eastwood or
Griot's Garage or someplace like them and buy the detailing products
that are sold for this purpose. It can take a LOT of work to detail
the engine nicely. Best done when you have to disassemble some of it.
For the bottom and sides you can use an engine cleaner like Gunk or
just plain old oven cleaner. Spray it on while the motor is hot, wait
a couple of minutes to let it break up the oil, and then hose it off.
Keep away from painted surfaces. Do not use any cleaners or treatments
with silicone around the motor.
