I've had a mouse or mice get into my jack compartment and electrical  
compartment, too. I understand that they hate the smell of "Bounce" dryer  sheets, 
which is understandable since I hate that smell, too. So I cut some  pieces and 
put them in the trouble spots, including behind the backer board  under the 
rear window against the firewall. I didn't want to go wild with the  stuff to 
the point that I smell it. Did that a year ago... so far so good. Can't  smell 
it myself, and haven't seen any more evidence. Or maybe I'm just lucky at  the 
moment. Worth a try, anyhow.
