I had this same stuff in my gas tank. Its solidified old gas. While I was cleaning it out of my tank I thought that it was part of the tank itself. Its just solidified gas goop. Make sure you get all of it out though or you will be replacing the fuel filter and/or pump sooner than you think. I wish you luck on the repairs and feel free to ask any of us. Thats the best discovery I found about my D is the fact that everyone in the community is willing to offer help and advice.
