Hi
I have seen a torsion bar that has been welded and it worked o/k, it has to
be
kept straight in a jig whilst it is being welded.
The problem is that the torsion bar is twisted in liquid nitrogen. This
gives the
bar the properties it has.
I have spoken to the company that made these and they did not object to
anyone using the
technology. The problem is that it is an expensive process.
This is actually a spin-off from Military technology as the principle used
on the Delorean is the same
as that used for lifting the canopy over the pilot in I think the F16 jet.
I do not know if it is still manufactured for military use but if you are in
the states you may find
someone could make it, 98% of the problem is not the manufacturing but the
processing cost.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Kevin

Subject: [DML] Broken torsion bar question
Today I discovered my driver's side torsion bar had broken. I had even
kept it under stressed just to prevent this from happening. I will make
some calls but from what I have read on line, I am out of luck. finding
  this part.
I want to get it welded. Can some one provide me with the specs on the
type of metal involved so I can find a welder capable of attempting
  this repair.
I just finished rebuilding the frame, and now this, any positive
  suggestions are appreciated.
