To add to Chris' statement, you also need to make sure the springs are seated properly in the "pockets". Many times spring pockets are ramped and have a particular point where the end of the spring is supposed to be positioned. (I believe this is the case on the Delorean's upper front spring pockets and the upper and lower on the rear. It's been a while since I loked at these mounts so please correct me if I'm mistaken.) A spring installed and not rotated to the correct position can effectively make the spring longer by a coil diameter which multiplies to even more at the wheel. Springs don't 'settle', at least not quickly. They might over decades though. What's really happening is that people are forgetting to loosen and BREAK LOOSE the upper and lower control arm bolts going through the frame when they change springs. When you forget this little step, the bushings are still torqued down at the old spring height. These bushings are quite strong when intact. They effect spring rate more than you think, and cars with new bushings will be stiffer with the exact same springs. So the 'settling' that people talking about happens as the bushings slowly twist.. and sometimes tear, until they reach equalibrium with the new springs.
