Dean,

Do not use a steel wool pad. I have never seen it happen, but it is
possible that the steel dust from the pad could get inside the grains of the
stainless and rust, giving the appearance of rusty stainless.

I have recently had great luck using a 100 grit piece of sandpaper on a
block, followed by a blending pad available from DMC Houston and other vendors.
The key is to run the entire length of each panel from front to back, and
repeat (with the sandpaper) until the scratches are gone, then do the same a few
times with the blending pad. Don't stop at the end of the panel; instead,
try to 'lift off' like an airplane. If you stop the block on the stainless it
will make more scratches you don't want.

Finish with a hand car wash and you will be pleased. The metal will be very
shiny for a few hours until it dulls again.

When I look at my D from a distance, it looks great! However, close up,
and
with the sun at certain angles, there are shallow scratches visible. The
previous owner suggested a stell wool pad, but I don't want to try
something
that could make things worse without hearing of possible alternatives from
DML
members. Without compromising the overall finish, how can I remove the
scratches?
