It isn't that complicated a circuit. The Blue/Yellow wire from the starter goers to 85 on the relay (instead of the middle of the resistor). That is the coil of the relay which grounds through the black wire from 86. The NO contacts 87 and 30 short out 1/2 of the ballast resistor with the other blue/yellow and white wires. That blue/yellow wire from the starter is only supposed to have 12 volts during cranking. As Martin points out this is also power for the cold start valve.
