[DML] Re: Ignition Resisitor Relay..



I cannot find any mention of it in any documentation I have. Maybe
James Espey can find something in early records because it appears on
even the earliest production cars. It appears to be an add-on ie, it
has it's own harness and the bracket it attaches to is attached to the
diagnostic plug bracket as an additional piece. It's purpose is to
jump out 1/2 of the ballast (compensating) resistor to provide a
hotter spark during start-up. Using the relay electronically isolates
the starting circuit from the ignition circuit preventing any possible
back-feeds.
