Take the W pipe off. It's only three screws. If you tear the gaskets 
they are under a buck each, in a pinch you can make them. 
Maybe what they mean is that you can leave the center part in place 
but disconeect the outer ends. I don't believe that you can do it 
with the W-pipe in place, at any rate it doesn't seem worth the 
aggravation.
