Hi Dale,
 
Interesting information about your diode.  Did you use a multimeter to  
verify that it definitely is wired in backwards?
 
Another thing to check is to be sure the ignition advance solenoid canister  
thing is hooked up properly and is working as it should.  With the key on,  
engine off, you should be able to hear it clicking when you move the throttle  
away from the microswitch.
 
Let us know what you find.  If you come to DCS, I can help you check  things 
out.
