Torque Control.
I use color coded torsion bar sockets. They are designed to flex at a 
specific torque.
Some late 20th century know-how incorporated torsion bar sockets with 
dials that allow you to have fine torque control (rather than just 
ballpark 'rough').  You'd pick a bar in the range you desire, say 100 
lb-ft and then you move the dial to +4 for 104lb-ft.  The bar flexes at 
100lb-ft and a MEMS sensor (or other actuator) determines how much 
additional impact force is needed before sending a interrupt signal 
(can be electric or mechanical) to power down the torque wrench. 
Some people use the lowest rated impact wrench that exceeds the amount 
of torque they need, and use the 'force' to know when to stop.
I'm sure there are other mechanisms for controlling torque output.
