At first my agent said I could do what you did, but when I pressed
to be sure, they checked with the underwriters and said I should get
the appraisal. They gave me the name of a local appraiser they use.
It was $100 and the appraisal was faxes directly to the agent. One
advantage was the appraiser stated a value a little over what I had
estimated. :)
It sounds like you're OK. I guess neither of us will know we did
enough unless we have to file a claim.
