[DML] 508 or 510, what is the answer?! Vin 3323 Update

Hey Everyone,
We actually got the body over the frame this last week and I'm slowly
hooking everything up so that I can drop the body onto the frame and
get everything tightened down (hopefully for the last time). I will
be posting a few more pics under Vin 3323 Restoration tonight.
My main question is regarding the AC System. I am using an Eagle
Premier Engine and was wondering if I should go with the Sanden 508
or the Sanden 510? I'm going with the 6 groove configuration so they
atleast provide that (based off what I saw on Ebay).
Is there a big difference in the two different models? I know the
510 has 10 cubic inches and the 508 is 8 but is there a tremendous
difference between the two? I definitely see the price
difference :)
I'm also wondering about the Accumulator/Drier, how do I know if it's
good or not? With Vin 3323, I have the earlier version with the
connection on the bottom. The system was connected but drained when
I got the vehicle and I'd really like to not replace anything I don't
have to.
The accumulator stated on the DML for converting over to R134A states
a 1986 Corvette Accumulator/Drier that will work with both 134a & R12
if you convert back. Does this mean I could use a 508 or 510
compressor and use the 86' corvette accumulator/drier, pop in a new
orifice tube, and recharge the system? (Does that drier work with
the older setup?)
If I went that far should I just go the R134A way?
I'd like to hear your opinions on what you'd do, to get the AC
working in the cheapest way possible. It's not a necessity as
getting the car running if my first priority....but I'd like to hook
everything AC-wise up before I drop the body and have a set-in-stone
direction of what I'll eventually do when I get to the AC.
Thanks for you input!
Brandon
