It's not just brain power - it's money. Not many
people want to put up the tens of thousands of dollars
it would take to engineer a solution. Then add on
the hundreds of thousands to actually make the solution
in reasonable numbers. Compared to this, the prices that
replacement bars are selling for now is a relative
bargain.
