How do you keep your engine clean???

Hi,

I spent most of last weekend ceaning the engine in my DeLorean 
including the compressor etc.. however this week when I looked the 
engine had some sort of chalky spots on it and I have had to clean 
them off. My car live outside so I guess the chalk /calcium stuff has 
come from the rain. Is there anything I can put on the engine 
conponents once I have cleaned then to either stop this happening or 
at least make it easyer to re-clean?
