My clunk turned out to be a weak rear spring. It had been cut to lower the car, (yes, the rear) and my guess is that the heat of the cutting tool weakened the springyness of the coil. When under load, the coil had a definite bend in it, and the coils on one end of the spring length were more tightly spaced than at the other end. The car clunked when going over a sharp bump, or when turning sharply. It also listed to one side by about 1/2 inch, when viewed from the rear. I replaced both rear springs and shocks with PJ's, and my clunk went away. Jeff Angwin VIN 3034
