It is OK to use DI water but it isn't necessary. The main requirement 
for the water is that it not be "hard". You don't want minerals to 
settle out of the water and coat the inside of the cooling system. It 
should also be at least potable as if it has a high microbiale content 
you could grow slime in the system. Depending on your area of the 
country tap water is usually just fine. Mix 50/50 with a national 
branded permanant type anti-freeze like Prestone and add till full. 
Bleed out the air and top off. Watch the level because if you have to 
add ANY after this it means you have a leak even if you can't see it.
