Sorry to hear of your bad experience.. this is EXACTLY why I don't let anyone work on mine... only people I would trust would be DMC Houston, DMCJoe, or PJ Grady, unfortunately, none of them are close enough to me to do that... I've made an offer to DMCJoe to pay for his flight and his time to come down and put a radiator on for me, and install the fuel kit (dont need it yet, but while he's here I figured I would have him fix it before it breaks)... hopefully he will accept, but I know he is busy. I am no mechanic, but atleast I know I love my car, so before I will take it anywhere, I will try to take a crack at the fix myself.. so far, I've done several things by myself, replaced the headlight switch, replaced the brake pedal brake light switch, replaced the alternator, put on DMCJoe's overheat protector, and installed a Tankzilla. I can only wish that everything was as simple as the tankzilla.. the brake light switch took me almost 2 hours because I couldnt get the damn bolt off... I am so mechanically "uninclined" it isnt funny... the overheat protector and the tankzilla though, pieces of cake. I have a shop manual, and I think I could probably do the radiator if I had to, but I wont even try the fuel pump, I know my limits :) I thought about taking it to other places, and fortunately, most of them around here will admit they don't know jack about a Delorean, but they said they are willing to learn, and between the shop manual and the excellent tech support for the D, they could probably do it... but at the same time, they lack the care I have for my car.... the one time I trusted it to someone else, I took the day off from work to make sure it was taken care of (this was when I had the Duce rebuilt)... I didnt want some guy wearing 6 quarts of oil on his pants to sit in my seats, and I didnt want my car to become a shelf for tools... yeah it pissed them off, but, I'm sorry, this car is too irreplacable for me to leave it somewhere other than a place I know I can trust. I hope you do sue this Lance guy.... and I hope you win. Just get a signed statement from whoever you bought the car from stating that whatever you had worked when you got it.... your word against his in court doesn't carry weight, but if you have a document from the place you bought it from, that carries clout...I won an insurance case that way, and we all know what worms insurance companies are. also - if you paid with a credit card, CHARGE IT BACK... I never pay for anything with cash anymore, because there are too many crooks out there... a bank will side with you 99% of the time. I would also prepare an invoice for your time that you spent fixing the parts he broke (high beams, blinkers, etc.) And if all that fails, you'd be surprised what pulling your Delorean out in front of his shop will do.... people will be attracted, (his customers), tell them what he did to it, they will leave without hesitation. TV stations also love a good juicy story (they usually have investigative reporters that eat this stuff up)... call them too. You're a better man than me though, had I walked in and seen my car disassembled, then got it home and found it was messed up, there would have been an ass whoopin' going on.
