I have had experience with this. The front end of my car had rust all over it. I was able to polish off all the rust. Some areas were I felt the metal was weak due to rust, were spot welded to re-enforce it. I haven't finished the car yet, so I haven't been able to road test it, but I am sure that the spot welding will work out well. Of course in order to spot weld, I had to remove the epoxy. I undercoated the car to prevent rust. Hope this helps. It is an issue most of us will have to deal with when the epoxy cracks and water gets in. Naval Jelly/Converter can convert all rust on a frame to a black inert oxide. A number of coatings are available that work much better than the old epoxy. And frames can be welded to add extra strength if needed. Has anyone on here done this in the recent past (5-15 years) with success and satisfaction?
