Some years ago I had a fire in my engine compartment, fortunately a local taxi driver stopped and allowed me to use his fire extinguisher. I suspect that the coutesy light in the engine compartment was on all the time (faulty switch/metal tag on cover not hitting switch right), and the plastic lens cover melted and dropped down on to my hot muffler and then ignited. From there the flames hit the wiring loom, the rubber belts, the plastic A/C tubing etc - there's a heck of a lot of combustible material when a fire gets going. Now I've disconnected the courtesy light switch to be safe and only use it when required. Robert
