[DML] Engine Troubles

Group,
I know this is a rather vague question...but maybe I am thinking too
hard about how to solve it. I am looking at a DeLorean near my home town and
need some advice. The car, and early '81 model (w/gas flap), is practically
brand new. It has never been titled, has 3,000 miles, and looks showroom
new. The only problem is that the car doesn't run right. Living where I
live, I know there are few places to get it serviced. The car will run fine
for a short while, and then will start sputtering, and spitting out black
smoke. I have never driven it, so I don't know how it acts on the road.
Could it simply just need a major tune-up? Is there something else wrong.
The car has sat most of its life, but has had new injectors, and a fuel pump
installed. What could be the problem. The condition of the car makes me want
to buy it, but should I be afraid? Is this a problem that is relatively easy
to fix? I can work on my Fiero all day long, but am a little weary about
diagnosing anything wrong with a DeLorean. Please help me!
Thanks,
Sean Spurlock
