This sounds like a bad mode switch. The airflow in the ventilation
system is controlled by vacuum actuators. The actuators are
controlled by the mode switch in the dash. There is a portion of
the switch that is sealed with a silicone grease that eventually
dries out and causes erratic operation of the ventilation system.
