But if memory is correct, yours was a trashed painted car before you bought
it and any prep work for painting or clear coating was already done by PO.
Further I believe and correct me again, but your grain is non-existent
anymore.  I remember is looking kinda funny under the clear coat.

Micheal,

Your statement that clear coat will not stick to stainless is incorrect. 
 My car has been clear coated for over 7 years.   It has never peeled or 
delaminated.  
It was at Pigeon Forge.
