My '82 did the same thing but when I took the horns off and hooked them directly to 12V
they sounded just fine, the remedy was a horn relay.  You might want to check your horns
with full voltage before wasp hunting.  Also, with a relay you can use most any horns
without upsetting the delicate electrical nervous system.

Lance, Not being a short in wires somewhere, as the fuel pump gets older and 
being that it is an electrical motor,  I would say it's most likley the fuel 
pump. When you turn the key to the 1st position and the fuel pump runs for a 
sec or two. Does it pop the fuse then.

Willie, Because there are electrical contacts in the fuel sending unit. Cold 
contracts and one of them might not have touched good enough and caused this 
temporary problem.

Hi List,
I ran across a site, http://www.decalkits.com, that 
specializes in automotive body and windshield decals.
I emailed them about perhaps fabricating DeLorean 
designs.  I have yet to get an answer, but I'll post again
with the results.  
So, what do you guys think?  Would you like to "spice up"
the car by adding a couple of black flames down the side,
or putting "DeLorean" across the windshield?
Let's elaborate!

It may not be your timing chain..... Check your exhaust manifold gaskets for 
leaks.  Your engine will make tick, tick, ticks sounds when your engine is 
cold and after warming up some 20 minute later, the sound will subside or go 
away.  I had that problem until I had PJ Grady change the gaskets.

Steve, I would agree with you on the fuses and in going one step further, I 
suggest the fuses be replaced when they start to loose the shinny contacts. 
When they start to frost up and look dull I believe they are building up a 
higher resistance and start to heat up more. Normal heat and atmosphere is 
what turns them frosty looking to begin with and that's when the contacts 
build up the higher resistance and they melt quicker or damage the box.
The Ducellier had the light wire as well, but being a two wire system, the 
sense voltage also came through the brown wire. 
The Motorola was or is a one wire system and has to have the light wire 
brown/yellow or NY to activate the regulator. Since the bulb was hooked in 
series with the wire, If it goes out, so does the alternator. 
I also have a voltage regulator I could put in the alternator that doesn't 
have any voltage regulator wires at all to hook up. It's internally excited, 
but if I use them, you would have no light. The gauge would still be OK. So I 
don't do it because I would think most people would want to see the light. I

Check the roof T-panel. If the foam underneath it has deteriorated, 
there may be insufficient upward pressure
on the front flange of the roof where it engages above the windshield. 
There are no fasteners at this point,
so a slightly loose roof can definitely rattle in a way that is hard to 
localize.  If this is the problem, just glue some new foam under the 
panel and it will go away.

Having had the experience of buying a D new back in
'82, I can say there was no testosterone even when
new.  to hear the horns, I almost had to first roll
down the windows.
Long ago I replaced my horns with Hella horns from
Griot's Garage.  They are that terribly irritating
German style BEEP, but you can't miss them and that's
why we have horns in the first place.

When I check in to building a performance PRV-V6, I found information that said our engines do not have any means of adjusting the timing chain. One of the reasons you cant mill the head (too much) to increase compression.

This comes up every spring.
Some have had good luck with conversions, BUT I suggest sticking with R-12.
To do a proper R-134A conversion, every seal in the system needs to be changed, the receiver/dryer needs to be changed, and everything else needs to be properly flushed out. This is not a easy job to do CORRECTLY, and when your done you are still be stressing the components by putting them under 70% more pressure than they were designed for. The added pressure is also hard on the compressor, so you may be looking at replacing that too.
R-12 is not all that expensive, it is just hard to get without a license. There are good substitutes that have been discussed in the past, but I do not use them. I stick with pure R-12, no blends. Blended R-12 sometimes contains propane which is a excellent refrigerant, but VERY DANGEROUS!
You will also stay much cooler with R-12, without overworking the compressor (and taking more power from your wheels!)

I introduce myself, my name is Christophe and I live in Luxembourg, 
in the "Old Europe". I'm a DeLorean Owner since my 28th birthday, I'm 
29 years old now, my D (VIN#04271) was sold in California first, and 
it came to Germany where I bought it, and now, it is in Luxembourg 
for a long, a very long time, I hope.
This car was entirely dismounted, engine, gearbox, interior, brakes, 
etc... therefore, I can say that I know it by heart. If you have 
particular problems, ask me especially if it is about the engine, it 
is a European mechanics... 
I have to change all suspensions, and I want to give to my D the best 
I can find, so I ask to put on it the Bilstein-Eibach suspensions. 
Before launching me in the adventure, I would like to know if  anyone 
among you would be interested.
These suspensions are the one used in European super cars like 
Mercedes AMG or Brabus, Porsche prepared by Strosek or Koening. It's 
also the suspension of race cars for "24H of Mans" or "Paris-Dakar" 
rally. The reputation of this company is not any more to make.
Another detail, you will have these suspensions for the entire life 
of your car, a rally car using this suspensions in a very hard way 
keep them for several years (5 to 10 years with a little 
reconditioning each year). Suspensions needs just a little 
reconditioning treatment, and that's all…
The price will go between $1500 to $2600 for a complete set (4 high 
performance suspensions and 4 lowering springs).
If you are interested by giving one of the best suspension of the 
world (Bilstein-Eibach), send me an e-mail, the more answers I will 
get, the cheapest it will be !!!

You bring up good point on why leave a DeLorean's doors open for no apparent
reason. It's useful in drawing attention to the car for advertising purposes
but in real life it's not necessary. People typically don't leave the doors
open on a car with conventional side opening doors longer than necessary, so
why do it on a DeLorean?
