I also have a power loss, but I (very techniclly challanged) think it
may be the fuel pump. After not driving her for a couple of months I
took her out on 2 consecutive days, about 30 miles in total. On day 2 I
was returning home from our little jaunt, and all of a sudden I'm
stalling out (on a main street - very main). After restarting she ran
pretty rough and labored for a few blocks and stalled again. This
sceneario happened several times in my quest to get home without using
yet another of my precious few free AAA tows. Each start kept her
running less time, until alas - no restart. She seems to want to start,
but isn't getting gas - I think. Once I ran out of gas in a van and it
acted the same way, if I remember right. What d'ya think, fuel pump?

The special edition Colgan nose bras for the De Lorean have all been
packed
and labelled. The additional use and installation tips have been written
up
and added. They go out Monday by UPS! Charge slip cardmember copies will
go
out after I see actual shipping costs for each order.
Next project (after vacation next week): The updated service manual.
I'll
need YOUR input.

The wires are just a few inches away from a connector that may be under
the
fiberglass. Just unplug it and remove the sending unit. Be careful no to
spill dirt into the tank or cause any sparks.

My source says to check the 1989 Eagle Medallion - R30 Renault Automatic
Transmission. Information on this transmission is available through
Chrysler
Jeep Eagle Dealerships, Chilton, Haynes and Transmission Shops.
Unknown if the EXACT transmission was used in the DMC.

I use an MSD 6 Box. It plugs into the stock wiring. The MSD super coil
will not
fit under the stock Delorean corner cover. I put it back by the
distributor . U
can also use and Accel super coil.

In working on the ZF 4 speed for the 97 (tm) DeLorean, I compared the
stock
DeLorean computer design to the later Bosch box. There was a major change
in
the technology. However, the design of the stock D unit is simple enough
to
make repair possible.
the design is also simple enough to duplicate.
What is not clear is the reason for failure.
Has some one accumulated all of the failed computers? Can we do this and
test
them to determine the mode(s) of failure. there has to be alot of these
out
there?
I am will to help solve this problem.

Group,
I am a very fortunate man. My car, VIN 7003, works! The locks, fuel
sending unit, oil pressure gauge, speedo, windows, A/C, etc... all work.
How
can I keep it this way. Has it had any of the updates...I don't know. What
is an easy way to tell. Especially, I want to keep my locks and windows
working...what should I do? I would appreciate any info. Also has anyone
put
in an oil additive into their cars. I am changing the oil in the engine
and
dope in the transmission and want to put in a cleaner prior to the change,
and then an additive? Anything better than slick 50? I would appreciate
the
help. Thanks

Gus,
Sounds like this new engine is great. We keep hearing about all this
extra power you've got, form both you and Bill and your seat of the pants
test drives. How about putting that thing on a chassis dyno and giving us
some real numbers. Bob Brandy's put some cars on a dyno last year in
Chicago
and he's got all kinds of factual info, both HP and Torque curves, on
various Delorean engine setups.
We're glad to hear all of this " it feels real good" stuff, but we want
actual hard facts. Let's run your car and get Bill to run his also, so we
can get some hard numbers and print out some dyno charts..........>
DMC has the charts and figures for the engine on a stand, and I believe
they
have completed the rolling dyno tests by now and will probably publish
those
shortly. As I recall, the peak HP with the standard exhaust was 172 and
197
with the headers. I don't remember the torque figures except that both
curves seeemed to be exceptionally flat over a wide RPM band. Stephen has
asked me to let him run my car on the dyno deal, and I will see if we can
still do that when I get back to Houston. I'm in Costa Rica at the
moment.
Stay tuned...

Ok,
I've had VIN #10365 for about a week now. The company who shipped
the car killed the battery in transit. I could start it if I jumped it
and
it would run fine but after shutting down it didn't have enough juice to
restart. So I bought a new battery today. I put it in today and now
nothing happens. Well, ok, everything else works, but when I turn the key
I
don't hear the fuel pump and when I try to crank I get one click. The
lights go off as if it's ready to start but it never turns. The battery
is
100%. I checked the fuses and they all look good. I'm at a loss and I am
not much of a mechanic. Any ideas before I have it flatbedded??
Thanks,
Matthew

DMC Joe is correct on this one. I was writing 2 seperate posts at the
time, so thats where the mix up occured. Another Volvo I was looking
at had the turbo, not the PRV (an '86 740 if I remember right). When
I get the chance, I'll go back to take some photos. I don't know if
the motor mounts are the same, but the crankshaft pully is longer.
All in all, it would be alot easier to just purchase a DeLorean
specific engnine as a replacement rather the attempting to use a
stock PRV. Aside from swapping the oil pan, the crankshaft pully,
etc.., you would also have to make sure that you had the hardened
cams in place. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but modifications
are involved.

John,
The first prototype was built in 1976 and the second prototype was built
in
1977.
