I contacted IPD as suggested in a previous post and, as already mentioned,
they do not have any performance products for the PRV V6. However, they
did give me a line on an independent facility run by a guy who "likes" the
V6 (their words). After I contact him, I'll update everybody.

Just curious, Any Delorean owners in the Memphis area? I just recently
picked
up VIN# 5705 while down in Florida on a business trip. I have to give the
"list" alot of credit for my purchase. I wasnt sure I really wanted to get
involved with an out of production Exotic, but stumbling across you guys,
helped me make the decision. It is really amazing by todays standards, to
see
a group of folks getting along, and helping each other. I'm proud to be

I have this Gold series book also and have found that this is what all you

1977

So
much so that a lot of the earlier articles about the time when the car came
out are a bit redundant. It is published in England by Brookland Books but
the
articles are from both sides of the Atlantic.

Further to the interior color comments are they affect the 83's.
My 83 in VIN 16867 and has the Two-tone interior: ie., both grey and black.
Rob Grady said that there were about 200 such cars. I'm sure that this is
partially due to some limitations on the interiors available and the end of
the run.
My dash, center console, doors and seats are black. The headliner,
carpeting, rear deck are grey. My earlier D was all grey. I must admit
that I have come to like this set-up even better.

Hi all,

Subject: DML: Wheels & Tires
I found an article in California Engineer, Vol 76 issue 4, by Scott
Polston, about the 1997 Corvette. Maybe this is old news, but I thought
the section on tires and wheels was especially interesting, especially
after the recent discussions on tire/wheel sizing. (Reprinted w/o
permission):
"The first Corvette wore tires that had sidewalls 80mm high on 14-in.
wheels. At this point, high-speed racing was in its infancy and tire
companies were struggling to stay current. Rubber was often so uneven
and easily deformed when heated, so it was necessary to contruct large,
thick tires to compensate for the inferior production techniques. Years
passed and as tires were refined, new technology allowed sidewalls to
shrink and rims to grow. Large tires experience random and often
unexpected movement, while those with shorter sidewalls are less prone
to bounce and roll. Creating a suspension that responds accurately to
wheel input is difficult if the wheel itself is subject to haphazard
motion. Less movement in the tires allows for finer tuning of the
suspension components."
It seems to me that so long as the ultimate outer tire diameter remained
the same, only positive handling effects could result from upping the
DeLorean's wheel size and shrinking the sidewalls. It shouldn't
adversely affect the suspension design unless Lotus was counting on
flabby tires and incorporated that into their design. Am I all wet?
The article also mentions that the specific tires used on the new
Corvette are a new design from Goodyear, capable of driving at 55mph for
up to 200 miles with zero air pressure. This means that the spare tire
and jack are superfluous, which in turn means more cargo room.
Promising...?

There are two screws, one on either side of the pull-handle. These are
very difficult to reach, you may want to unscrew/remove the inner door
pop lever to gain access to it with a right-angle screwdriver. otherwise,
you'll need a really, really long phillips (or a spindley little arm like
mine).
These are a major pain in the ass to remove and re-install. My pull handle
has been hanging by one screw ever since I took it off several months ago.
However, I think you'll be dissapointed with the "access" to the window
motor. I pulled off most of the stuff on the door, and I couldn't even see
the window motor, but maybe I'm blind... My problem was the window
was derailing itself, I had to loosen a screw and re-position it.. turns out
I didn't even need to remove the lower panel to begin with.. sigh.. oh well.
Joe at DMC services claims to be able to pull the lower trim on and off
in a few minutes, but I think he's a big liar, I wanna see a video tape of
this miracle act! (just kiddin' Joe!)
>Also does anyone know how to remove the seats.
>
There are four nuts directly under the seats that you can remove without
doing anything but reaching under the car with a socket wrench. Very
easy, and fun, it's the only thing I've taken off that wasn't a giant chore!
<g>
Just remember, if it's hard coming off, it'll be even harder goin' back on!
Good luck!

Hi Bruce,
I have been following the turbo thread on the DeLorean Mailing List
with considerable attention lately. In fact, I think the discussion
all started via a question I posted about single turbo upgrades.
Unfortunately the the topic has taken a few tangents, leaving my
questions mostly unanswered. I was originally hoping that people with
successful single turbo installations could impart their wisdom and
experience in the matter.
You mentioned in a recent post that Turbo City was good enough to
work out a design with you for the DeLorean. I am interested in
designing a similar setup. So far I have been looking at a Garrett
turbo. The difficulty I am facing right now is that of interconnect
fabrication. Would you mind telling me a bit about how made the
interface to the intake manifold and throttle body? Did you have this
machined? Cast? I have a friend that can weld and bend tubing for
me, but the mount to the intake system is above his capabilities.
While I am at it, maybe I could ask you a couple more questions...
Do you still have a catalytic converter and muffler in the exhaust
system? It would seem difficult to include both. This past weekend I
was fortunate enough to view Tito's car with the BAE single turbo kit
installed. (Unfortunately these are no longer available.) The muffler
was done away with and an after market catalytic was added. The
layout seemed straight forward and doable.
If a turbo for the Alpine GT Turbo could be found, maybe the
interconnect and interface pieces could be adapted for the delorean
with little modification. I agree with your statements about the
turbo being properly matched to the engine. A properly sized Garrett
or Rajay turbo bolted to already existing Alpine interface would be a
attractive solution.
I would appreciate any suggestions you or anyone else reading this
could provide.
Thanks,
Luke Soasey

1. Use a LONG phillips head screw driver slipped behind the loosened panel
to
remove the screws in the side of the door handle or refer to Joe's response
to Automatic lock inspection removal procedure on Aug 31.
2. Remove the 4 nuts from beneath the car and lift out the seats..

Massimo,
There are two screws. Each on the front and back side of the lower door
handle. You can try prying down the panel far enough to get your arm in to
unscrew them (Just don't flex the panel so much that it breaks). I,
personally, custom built a two foot phillips screwdriver. It goes right in
and takes out the screws. Plus, putting it back on is a much easier task!
Good Luck!

Taking the seats out is easy, but be careful when reinstalling them.
The nuts do not require a lot of torque, and the studs on the tracks are
easily broken off! If you break a stud, you will either need a new
track or a new stud welded in.

I saw that game awhile ago, it was mentioned once in the mailing list.
It
looks like the police in the game have modified the DeLorean by puting a

Folks,
The DeLorean Owners Association worked for more than ten years negotiating
lower insurance. The company they came to an agreement with was American
Modern Home. I immediately told American Modern Home that I was interested
so they would apply for their license in Arizona. American Modern Home had
to apply for a license in each state where they wanted to operate.
After about six months, DeLorean Owners Association announced that the
interest of the Owners was to low and stopped the program.
However, I did get insurance through them and I still have it with them. I
pay $275 per year, and for anyone that knows what insurance costs are in
Arizona this is really cheap. My driving is limited to 2,500 miles per year,
and the car can only be used for pleasure (not to and from work).

While I had not read the aritcle that Eric quoted, I, too, had heard
essentially the same thing. Alledgedly, going up an inch in rim size and
down an "aspect" in tire size produced not only a more modern look, but
better handling as well.
I'm curious whether Joe or others who disagree with this approach can offer
more insight. Perhaps this is one of those things about which there is no
absolutely definitive answer??
Along this same line, many early owners put 1/2" spacers behind their front
wheels to gain a wider track. I've no idea of the results - godd or bad.

I can help with the seats....it's easy, they are held by 4 bolts and that
go straight down threw the bottom FRP shell. You can reach all of them
easily with out jacking up the DMC. I would suggest that after removal,
when you reinstall the seats you also should use a sealer to prevent water
getting in from the road.

Subject: DML: Grand Delusions
I recently read Grand Delusions and found it a very interesting book. I
must admit, I never knew that JZD was such a feeb. But more importantly,
the book says some unflattering things about the car that I hadn't heard
on the list, and I was wondering if anyone can comment.
First, it says that the car weighs a good deal more than I thought it did.
It claims that it weighs in at 3100+ pounds - whereas I always thought it
weighed about 2700 pounds. Was his car weighed with Roseanne Barr driving
it, or does it legitimately weigh more than I thought?
Second, it says that the acceleration is downright bad - 0 to 60 in 10.5
seconds. I had always thought that it was about 8.5 seconds. Was he
talking about the automatic transmission, or is something wrong? 8.5
seconds is slower than a lot of modern cars, like the Camaro or,
amusingly, the Lincoln Continental. 10.5 seconds is slower than a lot of
modern cars, like, well, just about anything except a minivan (and some
of them).
Has anyone tested under "official" or at least official-seeming
conditions, what the turbo or twin-turbo modification does to your 0-60
times? A lot of legitimately fast cars, like the Toyota Supra, are in the
6 second range... :}
The book also mentions some defects that I haven't heard complaints about,
like ill-fitting doors and body panels, doors freezing shut, front
suspension damage, and discoloration of the body panels. Oh, and he
mentioned something about the electrical. ;) And the age-old question -
how does one enter a locked car with a dead battery? (the answer - don't
use a dead battery, use a key?)
Is any of this true? If so - bummer. :) Of course, the book was never
intended to be complimentary, so I'll try to take this for what it's
worth...

Don't we all. :}
> How is that report coming along?
Poorly. I have only received about half a dozen responses. :(
Therefore, treat this as a second call for information. If you want to
contribute to the insurance database (and believe me, you want to :) )
then please, fill in the blanks and email your answer to me at
fluffy@xxxxxxxxxxxx I hope to have at least one response on file from
every state, except perhaps Alaska. Once I get enough responses to create
meaningful statistics, "Stainless Steel Hand Espey" has offered to host
the information on the web site. But I think it would look silly with
only five entries.
Therefore, if you have a DMC, and you have it insured, and your insurance
is for something other than storage only, please fill out the following
questionnaire (Version 1.1) and return it to me. You'll make everyone
happy if you supply as much as possible of the information on the form.
Thanks. :)

What model D you have and whether you have put any insurance-eating
modifications (turbo, nitrous, super-sound, flux capacitor) into it. If
so, how much of an effect did this have on your quote, if you know. One
other question: Does lowering the front on the D raise the insurance
rates? (preliminary evidence says no...)
Age, sex, family/marriage status and homeowner status
Where you live. In particular what state, but also whether you live in
the city or in a rural area, and if so, which city.
What your driving record is like. Anyone that wants to would make me
happy if they told me specifically how many tickets and accidents, if any,
you have.
What other vehicles you own, if any, and which one is your "primary"
driver.
What flavor of insurance you have. Is your D insured for standard, full
coverage? Do you have mileage or usage restrictions?
What sort of car your insurance company claims you have. It's probably
not an SUV or a pickup, but did they insist on calling it a "sports car"
or did you convince them that it's a coupe, classic, or some generic
category?
If you considered other vehicles in the same class as the D, what did the
insurance companies tell you they would cost?
Who it is that you have actally convinced to insure your car.
And of course, how much all this costs you, per vehicle.
Thanks for your help!

If a larger DMC Look alike wheel could be made specifically for the car,
this would be interesting..
I like the appearance of the stock rims, and would not be so quick to
change them.
Also, Some people have had trouble with the lug nuts loosening up on
after market rims. The result is that the lugs need to be tightened
very often, or a stud can break.
