I am still going to this show, God willing, and unless some government
authoirty puts up road blocks. I hope that this morning's happenings in
Manhattan along with the associated political environment are not going to

Today I am finishing-up putting on new trailing arm bolts and fuel lines.
Tommorrow the D gets wheel alignment and then Thursday I should have new
poweder-coated rims arriving from PJ Grady. Then the new Michelin Pilots
get mounted and balanced. Then Friday I head to the show.

hey all,
last night i had an overheating problem -
about 30 blocks from my house i began to notice the odor of burning wires. i
pulled over and checked my engine compartment. no problems. i then checked
my electrical compartment - my fan fail jumper was melting and it was
super-hot. i unplugged it thinking it could start a fire, then drove
straight home, knowing i was w/o fans. once home, i let the car idle for
about 2 minutes while i inspected the rest of my compartment for overheating,
then i turned off the car and i immediately could hear the sound of coolant
boiling on my muffler. i looked back and there was a big plume of steam that
rose up and soon as i turned off the car. i opened my engine bay and i could
see about 1/2 qt of coolant had spilled out of my reservoir overflow hose,
however there was also coolant on my driver's side engine compartment wall,
on my belts, and on both the waterpump and crankshaft pulleys. i suspect
that coolant came out of the reservoir and some landed on my running belts,
and they sprayed coolant around. i let the car cool then came back an hour
later to check it out, and i couldn't find any antifreeze leaks on my initial
inspection.
things to note - my temp gauge is inoperative so i do not know how hot the
engine got. my fans were wired by a previous owner to be constantly running
when the car is on. i do not have fanzilla as a result of this. i tested my
coolant last week and it was good to -40F so i know my coolant isn't old. i
have not started the car yet because i need to make a new jumper and buy some
more antifreeze.
any ideas on what happened to me, and is it possible i have incurred
permanant damage in those brief 30 blocks? the air temp was about 55 degrees
outside and i had no indication of engine damage until i shut it off and saw
coolant boiling.

The second annual DeLorean Fall foliage tour has finally been
scheduled.
This should be the largest DeLorean event in the Northeast this fall!
This year it will be a two day event Saturday & Sunday October 27th
and 28th.
On Saturday the event starts at PJ Gradys in West Sayville N.Y.
This is guaranteed to be interesting to all DeLorean Enthusiasts
We will then depart from PJ Gradys and Caravan out to the East End of
Long Island.

Moderators: you can post this if it is not out of line. Many DMC members has
been writing and calling me with their concerns.
Folks:
To easy your concerns, all my family members are okay.
I am deeply sadden to say that I may have relatives, friends or students that
may have lost their lives in or around the two towers -- And those who may
have gotten caught helping the victims at the crisis.
I live one mile from the World Trade Center, in the Chinatown area and there
is lots of dust that made its way into my home. Strange thing, we used to
train at a place just 600 yards from there at 310 Greenwich Street, the edge
of the World Trade Center.
I saw and witness this ugly event this morning. I gotten 3/4 of a mile to
the area (closest as I can before I was turned away)...... The two towers
was burning with/and people jumping from the "opening" gapes of the towers.
I can't believe that I saw this tragic act and the demise of the two towers
collapsing and reduced to nothing. It was horrific! It was just "yesterday"
when I saw the two towers being built back in the early and mid 1960s when I
was a teenager.
As I am writing this e-mail, one of my student called me, Cesar Martinez who
retired last year as a firemen, he lost his whole battalion when the towers
collapsed -- while they were there attending to the situation. Till now there
is no radio contact from any of them....... I am afraid to say there will be
more death and demise...... I am sad with a bad feeling......... My sympathy
and condolences to the them, their families and friends know or unknown.
IT IS A SAD A DAY IN NEW YORK CITY -- FOR THE REST OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE....
AND THE WORLD!

It is a somber day here in Washington, DC.,
The city of Washington, DC shut down immediately after the plane hit the
Pentagon.
The air traffic, roadways, and train service was immediately ground to a
halt.
The roads were blocked, and traffic was only able to leave the city.
The traffic and people made an exodus from downtown DC and the states of
Maryland and Virginia announced a State of Emergency.
Both of my former companies (Bank of America, Deutsche Bank) had offices in
the WTC. I am in shock as I was just there.

Andy - It is possible you did some damage to your engine.
Did your engine sound any different when you inspected the car?
When a car overheats to this extent, it is likely because the
waterpump failed or the thermostat failed closed. Check your
oil for possible coolant contamination. This would indicate a
warped head or blown head gasket. You should also get ahold of
a coolant system pressure tester. This will help you locate the
leak. It won't tell you anything about the waterpump or the
thermostat. You can check the thermostat by removing it and
dropping it into a pan of boiling water to see if it opens
when it gets hot. About the only way to check the pump is to
determine if the belt is still tight and that the pulley is
still turning. Remove the belt and try to spin the pulley.
If it moves freely, your pump is probably OK.

I had to modify my hood latch considerably by elongating the adjustment slots.
If I remember correctly, I had to completely cut the top hole so that the latch
would drop down enough to adjust the hood correctly.

Mike and others:
today i made a new jumper out of 12 gauge wire and 20 amp fuses, then topped
off my coolant reservoir. i started the car and drove it around for a bit
and it does not seem to operate any differently than before. i got the
engine nice and warm and it's performance is unchanged. i then brought the
car into my local shop to have the cooling system pressure-checked. they
said it held pressure perfectly and the 'radiator cap' works fine also, so i
do not appear to have any cooling system leaks. i just checked my engine oil
- i changed my oil two weeks ago and it seems to be of a normal tint and i do
not smell anything odd in it. i know my thermostat is working because my
coolant lines to the radiator were hot last night when the overheating
happened. also, when i replaced my alternator two weeks ago, i checked out
the water pump pulley. i remember it turned easily, but it didn't spin like
a tire. there was more resistance, however it was not difficult to move and
it didn't vary in ease of turning as you turned it like a bad bearing might
feel.
how 'stiff' of a turn should the water pump be? should it spin if you put
your hand on it and throw it like the wheel of fortune (like a tire)? or
should it spin relatively easily as you turn it with your hand on it? i will
have to check it out again tomorrow after the fact.

All is quiet here in Las Vegas. The only things moving in the sky
tonight are clouds, and the occasional satelite. Access to Hoover Dam
is currently restricted, as are the Stratosphere and Eiffel towers.
I've heard of a couple of civil defense trucks driving around town,
but no major worries here, or on the west coast for that matter.
Everything here is fine, and should be business as usuall by
tomorrow/today.
The increase in gas prices has been in the midwest. Some confirmed as
high as $7.00 a gallon. However, the news has reported that these
service stations that have gouged the prices did so unfairly, and
without any justified reason. Thus they will be fined by local
authorities for their actions. I was told this worry was due to a
petroleum pipeline in the Midwest getting shut off. No damage, just a
precautionary measure. Should be back on at any time now. Had some
lines here @ the pumps, with the highest price gouge being .10 cents.
Everything has since died down. As of right now, there are no
concerns about a fuel shortage anywhere in the nation.
I would also imagine that anyone here on the list that has recently
ordered parts from a vendor, and had them shipped via air cargo will
probably have delays recieving their packages. But I would imagine
the respective shipping companies that are handling the delivery
would be your best contact for a status update.
On a more personal note, does anyone know of a contact #, or a source
of some sort to find/contact survivors of the WTC disaster? The
reason I ask is a guy I work with is from NYC, and his mother worked
on the 72nd floor. Don't know which tower, but communications between
LV & NYC have been down. Needless to say he's been worried sick since
he can't get thru to contact any of his family in Queens.
While it's ultimatly up to you, and everything should be fine, I
would hold off on traveling for at least a couple of days. Most, if
not all local Govt. services will be up and running today. Commuting,
and running errands should be okay. But I'd hold off on any long
distance traveling right now unless it's absolutely nessisary. That
way you can stay in touch with your local news. It's doubtful
anything else will happen, but this way you can help keep the
highways clear for any emergency traffic that might be moving
equipment, medical supplies, etc... Especially on the East coast.
It is a sad day for both the USA, and the world. My sympathies go out
to everyone and their families that have been affected by this
horrible atrocity worldwide. I work for the local cable company, so
the office has televisions everywhere. Needless to say, I've been
constantly watching the events since yesterday morngin on a scale
from my local news, on up to the BBC feed piped in on the BBC America
channel. While things will never be exactly the way they were before
yesterday, they will eventually return to normal. If nothing else,
the past 20 hours I've seen what people can accomplish together when
out to the test. The flag may be flying at half-mast, but none the
less, it's still flying!
Everyone here has my best wishes. Hopefully everyone, and their
