I was looking to get a set of xenon lamps to replace
the Sylvania sealed halogen. I know that the wiring
would support 55-60W (at least I believe so). Its my understanding that
with 'xenon lamps' you don't really have a sealed lamp like with the older
halogen lamps, but rather a new lamp casing with a bulb. I wasn't sure
myself what would work as a replacement, but the pricing for most setups
didn't seem to be too expensive. Does anyone have a recommendation of what
to use or what they are using to get whiter, brighter beams for cheap?

Unfortunatly there in NO cheap replacement avaliable yet. The xenon blue
bulbs are not avaliable in sealed beam lights yet, that I know of. their are
currently only 2 companies that I know of that make the replacement lens
housings that fit the D. HELLA and CIBIE and they are anywhere from $40 to
$60 each lens housing and I'm not sure if that even includes the bulbs.
I know Rob grady has hella's in his green delorean.
Dmc houston Sells there high performance CIBIES ( euro spec ) w,regular
halogen bulbs for $225 complete set of 4 lights. the euro spec is supposedly
far superior to our US DOT standard.
Then there's the HID setup that DMC Houston has installed in one of their
cars
Im not sure if there using 2 HIDs or 4 . Hopefully as time goes on the
rediculusly high price of these units will come down but rightnow if you
want a set, there around $500 for each light that would be $1000.00 for a
pair and $2000 for the set of 4.
There is an aftermarket manufacturer called EAGLE light that sells an HID
driving light setup for around $250.00 per light but they currently don't
have a bulb and housing setup that would replace the sealed beams.
Incidently I have the blue xenon 80/100w bulbs in my daily driver an 86 Audi
Coupe GT. Thinking that more power would be briter, Well I was sorely
disappointed. Infact because of the blue light spectrum they actually appear
less brite than a regular halogen and I drive thru a lot of deer country in
Wisconsin. NOT GOOD!! however the factory Hella headlight lens have a lot to
do with it also. The beam pattern is very poor as far as I'm concerned. I
had A new AUDI A4 w/ HID lights pull up beside me one night on the
interstate. His headlights completely obliterated my light pattern and lit
up the road almost like it was daylight. Absolutely incredable all that
light operating from 2 35watt HID bulbs
HID is definatly the way of the future. believe it or not the life of an HID
bulb is around 5 to 10 thousand hours. My blue xenon's are rated at 1500
hours

So here is something interesting, I have to keep filling up my clutch
resivor about once a week or so. Think if the line and the slave cylinder is
replaced that should fix the problem? I talked to thefolks down at PJ Grady
they suggested that I also replace the master cylinder.But I think it should
be ok. What do you guys think? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

going to Long Island, you MUST go to one of the
premier DeLorean Sales & Service places, PJ Grady.
Rob is as skilled and knowledgeable about DeLoreans as
ANYONE in this business. Rob Grady and his wife
Debbie are very nice people. And, they are honest and
reliable. What more could you ask for when looking to
buy or to get repairs/restorations.

Yes...I have talked to them several times about 2 different cars. I do not
like them much.
Each time I spoke with them, they were rude, and non-descriptive about the
cars. They offered little information, and I had to pull teeth to get any
more than "It is in mint condition...a perfect car."
I later came to find out from someone who bought a car from them, that it
needed a lot of work! They are VERY firm in their prices, and normally ask
for more then the car is worth (again...stating that it is in MINT
condition).
They will however give you the VIN# of the car, so you can call DMC Houston,
or Rob Grady to see if they ever worked on it. In both cases I was
interested in, Rob had not looked at either car (unusual I thought, since
both prior owners were long island residents.....how could they not know
about PJ Grady!?)
Anyway...that's my two cents worth...check them out, but be cautious!

I have been to Gullwing Motors on several occasions. He has a very
varied and interesting group of cars and it changes quickly. Don't be
fooled by the name, he does not specialize in any particular type of
car although he has a large amount of British cars of all makes. He
does not seem to do much to the cars there except clean them a little.
Some of the cars are beaters and some are real gems. He usually knows
his prices so don't expect to find a bargin. I think most of the cars
are on consighnment so between what the owner wants plus his commision
the cars can get pricey. If you are seriously loking for a "D" then
contact P.J. Grady and they will either help you find one or they have
something already. You could also use them to help determine the value
of the car you find and usually they have a history on all of the cars
in the surrounding area. As a side note a Delorean was in the N.Y.
Times this past week for $18,500. Generally when these car dealers
wind up with an "exotic" car they price it too high when you consider
what it will take to get it into good running condition. Any
warranties they give are worthless as they are unfamiliar with the car
and couldn't fix it properly anyway. About the only protection they
offer is that you can go back to them if there is a problem with the
title like in if the car was stolen and some offer some kind of
financing. Another good source to find a "D" is your local club. At
Mid Atlantic's door adjustment several cars were for sale.

Subject: Rear Quarter Panel Removal
Hello list,
Soon, I'll be taking my car into the bodyshop for some work that will
require either one or both rear quarter panels to be removed. Can
someone give me some detailed instructions on how to remove them that
I can pass along to the bodyshop to make sure they don't make any big
mistakes at my expense?
Incidentally, one of the repairs being made is the driver side pivot
arm. It seems the fiberglass has collapsed where the pivot arm
connects into the car. I bought re-inforcement brackets to help fix
the problem, has anyone ever dealt with this? I'd love to know a
little about this fix!

I haven't been able to drive my delorean in over 2
months.. seems like one thing after another went
wrong... I installed a tankzilla, got it working, then
within 3 minutes the alternator went out....frustrated
because I didnt know how to do the wiring mods to put
in the PJ Grady or the motorola, I had the POS Duce
rebuilt.... paid $150 to have mobile mechanic come out
and put it in.... he puts it in, damn thing doesnt
work... (but the battery warning light does wooho!)...
thought it was the battery... took it out, got it
tested, they said it was probably bad, went and bought
a 1500CCA battery for 90 bux.. put it in, alternator
still didnt work.
took it back to the alternator shop... they removed
the alternator "fixed it", it ran for about 1 mile,
then boom, battery light comes on again, and once
again its bad... and this is rebuilt... coolant is
leaking from the front.. car isnt overheating, but
little bits spurt out in the front... Shawn at DMC
houston says get it fixed IMMEDIATELY because Delorean
have *NO* tolerance for a cooling system leak....
Pissed off, and wanting to go trade it in on the
convertible 300ZX I ORIGINALLY wanted,I got in the
car, alternator not working, but a HUGE battery, and
took
off for a drive.. then, I realized exactly why I have
the car.. there is nothing funner to drive, and
nothing gets more attention than it does.... and once
again I realized exactly what a masterpiece I have...
I guess the moral of the story is this - I hadnt
driven it in 2 months, and I forgot what it meant to
have and drive it... and although I am now waiting on
the replacement Motorola from DMC houston, I know I'll
never want to get rid of it again....

but when its idleing it runs kind of rough, and
occassionally when I am driving it at higher speeds,
it gets a little rough...
Is this most likely because there is not enough power
going to the computer for it to think properly for
fuel mixtures, etc?
I am hoping it isnt the start of a fuel problem.
although it shouldnt be.. gas is fresh in the car.
Car is back in storage waiting for the motorola from
DMC houston, and after that time for a cooling system
pressure leak and repair....
any advice/help appreciated,

I thought I'd ask the lists opinions to get some discussion going on what
types of events are trips or items for purchase you DeLorean owners like.
There are a lot of people that make everything from pins, souvineer cups and
key chains to Clothing and special accessories. Many vendors sold a lot of
these items in Cleveland and they seemed to move well.
What I was wondering is what events, seminars, trade show etc. draws you to
attend an event.
What items or other things would you like to see and where would you like to
do them. This is informal and will hopefully help me plan events you all
will enjoy more.
For me I like to attend events near water. And I like the driving trips.

Subject: Starting problems
Ok so here's my first post on a problem I am experiencing on my D
after trying to start it after 4 years.
I should start off with the following: I replaced the Fuel pump,
accumulator and Fuel filter. I emptied out the tank and cleaned it
out (although it was pretty clean to begin with). I had had the frame
off the car and taken all of the fuel lines off and blew them out
with shop air. I took the fuel distributor off the car and
gently/carefully removed the center metering pin and cleaned out the
fuel distributor. I had also rebuilt the entire engine myself and set
all the timing and such to spec. I installed everything, put about 5
gallons of gas into my tank along with Stabil gas stabilizer. I have
all 3 new fuel hoses and they are connected correctly and routed
properly. The new fuel filter is not threaded onto the 90 degree
elbow to tight to cut off fuel restriction. Fuel pressure from the
hose coming off of the fuel filter to the distributor is running sort
of like a garden hose. My cold start valve and frequency valve are
working and my warm up regulator is not blocked up. I have had the
injectors tested and cleaned by Rob like a year ago and they have
been stored safely in a dry location until the other day I put them
into the engine.
Now here is the problem:
I tried to start the engine and it just sputtered and died. After it
sputtered and died I tried to start it again but this time it seems
that only one cylinder is firing since after every revolution I hear
one firing. With the help of Nick Pitello I took out some of the
injectors and jump the fuel pump, nothing was spraying out of them.
We then began to adjust the CO and still nothing. Nick them tapped
the side of the injectors with the plastic side of a screwdriver and
it began to spray properly! We then tried it with another injector
that wasn't working and it too started to work. We installed the
injectors back into the engine (after only doing three of them) and
tried to start the car. Well it began to start but very ROUGH and it
idled for like 4 secs and then died. After a few seconds we tried to
start the car and the problem returned (one cylinder only firing). We
took out the same injectors and this time they were intermittently
working.
Now here is my question: First I should say I do not have a fuel
system pressure tester to test the pressure of my system (anyone want
to lend me one for a day? :)) Could I have a pressure problem? Like I
said before when the system is set up normally and I try to crank
it..only one cylinder fires. The sputtering in the beginning is most
likely due to the fuel in the intake manifold from the cold start
valve. Could it be that my fuel injectors are bad? How could I test
them at home to see if they are bad? Is 5 gallons of fuel enough for
testing? I didn't want to fill the tank up incase I had to get into
the tank again for any reason.
I have dealt with loads of electronic injectors (MPI,TBI,etc) but
this is my first with the Bosch setup.
Any suggestions welcomed and appreciated

The passenger seat can easily be taken out by removing the four 13mm mounting bolts. This allows for a considerable amount of storage space on the passenger side of the cabin.

People are selling an upgrade to your alternator. The stock one has been
notorious for being underpowered especially when fans kick on and a/c
switches on. Make sure your new one is an upgrade to more amps output.
