For everyone who either has one, or wants to buy one (available from
the DeLorean Owners Club in the U.K.), here's everything you wanted
to know about the toy DeLorean that has the opening gull wing doors.

As for the "Turismo" Hot Wheels car made by Mattel, it was based off
of the prototype DeLorean in 1979. I'll post more info on it when I
get it.

The car has rather loud valve noise from left side of block. So, I have a

This is most likely the exhaust manifold gasket leaking.

Hello,

Today a Dutch satalite-station called Veronica (The Young One) aired
their Car-magazine "De Heilige Koe" (translates as "The Holy Cow").
It had an item in it about Ital-Design and clearly showed a DeLorean
in their "Design-gallery"!!!

The programme aires again tomorrow, in the night of 24 going on 25 july,
at 00h00 til 00h31 CET (Dutch time). If I am not mistaking Veronica can
be recieved in most of Europe.
I will tape the show, hopefully I'll be able to post a short movie on the
internet
in the coming week.

Greetings from the Netherlands,

Nathan:

Congratulations on your purchase and incident-free cruise home.

Could the "valve noise" be the need for an exhaust manifold gasket
replacement? This is common on the left side. An obvious tapping sound
when
accelerating.

Subject: Gullwing Doors

As someone who worked at the DeLorean Plant in Dunmurry Belfast N.Ireland
John Z DeLorean may have a patent for Parts of the Gullwing doors now not
all the door as such.
When Mercedes and all the other great carmakers used Gullwingwinded doors
they all had a problem with making them water tight
and no one was able to overcome this and the rain leaked in all over the
place. This is the reason why Gullwinged were not popular with the car
makers.
When the great man John Z was confronted with this problem he got to work
before the DeLorean went into production and invented a new type of rubber
seal.
So its not the Gullwing doors that are his patent its the actual rubber
seal.Look at the seals on the doors they are a wonderful piece of
engineering

Subject: Strange Squeel at start!?

Hi everyone.... something i have noticed that happens
at random times.

When i got to start up the D' for the first time and i
believe with the A/C on i get a horrible squeel coming
from the engine that happens for about 3-4 seconds and
then stops. I heard it as well once when i cut on the
A/C when driving? Any help would be appreciated to
diagnose this problem.

Cliff,

Check your belt tension. You could just have a lose belt. Another cause
could be your top A/C idler pulley. These are known to come off
sometimes.

Hope this helps,

Duke

Subject: Stuck

Is there a cure for a sticking idle motor?

I've been having problems lately with the idle not returning to ~750.
Sometimes it will run at 1000 rpm other times somewhere between 1K and
1.5K. I noticed that the hose link between the cold start valve and the
idle motor was a very sloppy fit, so I replaced it. While I had the
idle motor off, I noticed that there was l lot of dirt? carbon, gunk,
whatever in the passage. After a few shots of carb cleaner, the passage
looks pretty clean. Cleaned the electrical contacts & resealed the air
pipe, reassembled everything.
Started the engine & idle seemed OK, gave it a quick hit with the
accelerator & back to high idle speed. In somewhat desperation I rapped
the idle motor with a screwdriver handle .......the idle speed returned
to normal. I've tried this several more times and every time the
screwdriver works.
This may get a little awkward while driving if I have to get out & whack
the idle motor at each stop light. So, other than replacing the idle
motor, are there any suggestions????

Richard
