If you broke the weld nut free you can grind/cut the head of the bolt off.
Then you use a rectangle shaped steel plate that will fit through a hole in the
frame.
Drill a hole large enough for the bolt in the plate. Weld a nut to the plate. Use
grade 8 bolts and nuts. Sorry, I do not know the metric equivalent. Spot weld a
wire (coat hanger?) to the plate and insert into the frame. The plate should be
shaped so that it cannot spin inside of the frame. Install bolt and pull wire to
remove.

Not knowing the proper procedure I had my torsion bars adjusted and did
not replace the gas struts. That was about two years ago. I replaced the
struts and the torsion needs to go back to the factory setting. What is the

We did strengthen the rear chasis in the 97™ Delorean. We did not feel
that the 1/16 thick frame metal was strong enough for new rear motor
mounts. We added 1" standard angle iron on both sides and a rear cross
frame of 1" square iron with motor mounts on both sides.

A while back, I used to work down on the Las Vegas Strip, so I was
always meeting people from around the world, literally! One day I was
speaking with a gentleman who was from Cleveland, and was a Lotus
enthusist. When our conversation turned to DeLoreans, the Cadillac
dealership was brought up. The man then told me that out back behind
the dealership, there was a good sized storage yard filled up with
DMC-12s he'd seen while driving past. A couple of weeks later I
called up the dealership to ask if this was true, and if so, were any
of the cars available for sale? The gentleman on the phone confirmed
the existance of all the cars on the lot, but said no, they were not
for sale. According to the dealership, aside from selling Cadillacs,
they also offered the service of storing DeLorean Motor Cars for
various car collectors. And even though all the cars were privately
owned, the man on the phone did state that every so often some cars
did pass through their hands to be offered for sale. The one car he
did have for sale was an '83, but it was an automatic. He took down
my name & number & offered to contact me as soon as he had another
car that I'd like (5-speed). But I never did hear from them again...
What strikes me as odd about all this is if you're a car collector,
why would you pay money for an expensive car that you own to be left
outside, and become damaged by the weather? Does anyone here know
more about any of this? If someone could gain permission to record
all of the VIN #'s of these cars, we could get a good sized addition
to the Production Chronology, or some pictures at the least.

if you are going to sell a car, and online especially, i would have climbed
in and just tryed to see if the engine would even turn over, nevertheless
run. Its also missing a headlight, and the grill looks like it might be
missing. No pictures of the interior were posted, i wonder how bad that was,
if the outside "just" needed some TLC, and the inside needs to be cleaned and
conditioned AFTER you get a new seat, than my guess is the leather is torn,
dash is cracked, the remaining seat is shot and the celing padding is
sagging. BUT I do kind of dig the wagon wheel, it gives it an amish touch.

Rick, its easy to tell if your car has the front-end recall/update. Look
underneath where the front anti-sway bar bushings bolt to the frame. If
updated, there will be a black steel plate, kind of an angle-iron looking
stamping about 8 inches long, between the bushing clamp and the frame. The
kit also includes stronger bushing clamps, ball joint nuts, etc., but you
would have to be familiar with both to recognize the updated ones. Of all
the updates, this is one of the most critical to have installed on your car.
You risk serious damage to the front frame (crumple tubes) without it. The
cost is about $143 from any DeLorean supplier, and the kit can be installed
by most anyone handy with a wrench.
Another recall to look for, one that is a lot less known about but one I
found out about the hard way, is lower ball joints. Look at the very bottom
of the lower ball joint, where the grease fitting is. If it is crowned like
a baseball cap, its the good one. If it is silver-dollar flat, I strongly
recommend getting new ones installed. They are pricey, about $85 each for
originals, but the incorrect ones are undercut where the threads meet the
tapered shaft, and can fail (trust me on that...).

When installing the 300HP blown Chev V-6 in my car, I made reinforcing
plates that bolt inside of the frame rails from the main crossmember back.
The tubular motor mount was then welded to that, with legs that also go
forward to the stock DMC motor mount pads on the crossmember. So far, I
have seen no evidence of any frame flexing or other problems.
But I am still trying to get my twisted-in-two transmission input shaft
repaired.... Its in a Seattle machine shop having a new splined coupler
made as we speak.

The power lock system in the DeLorean operates on the same principal as any
other two door vehicle locking system. Each door is fitted with a double
action solenoid. A switch at each door operated by both an interior lock
button and external key will activate both door lock solenoids. The locking
system is designed to be operated with both doors closed.
The problems with the DeLorean locking system are confined to the module or
"brain" that controls the solenoid activation. Fortunately the Lockzilla
upgrade eliminates all of the original problems.
For a full headliner refurbish including quality installation expect to pay
$300 to $450.

I believe the answer to your question is probably due to the fact that there
were no final "master wiring (schematic)" drawings ever produced. Hundreds
of wiring modifications were made throughout the entire 8K+ cars produced.
Wiring diagrams from various publications differ in several area's therefore
no one single diagram is accurate for all cars.

Hi All,
I thought it might be informative to share an interesting DeLorean mechanical
problem and it;s solution.
For that past few weeks, every time I started my D there could be heard a
high pitched Whistling sound, which I took for a vacuum leak. But no matter
how much I listened I could not pinpoint the source of the sound. Then one
morning when I opened the garage door I found antifreeze puddled under the
engine. After a bit I found that the air conditioning drive belt had cut
the bottom of the LH water pump hose!, which resulted from the lower air
conditioner idle pulley being gone.
Now I knew the whistling was the dry bearing in the pulley and when the
sound stopped the pulley had burned out and come apart. The belt was new
and in great condition. For all us shade tree mech-a-nicks the repair was
interesting and simple. A few wrenches, some penetrating oil, hammer and
some new parts.
The parts from PJ Grady came over night, and while I could not convince PJ
to ship all new
parts, spacers washers new bolts I wanted, he did ship a replacement post
and two new pulleys with bearings installed and the block-plate seal. I
also picked up a new air conditioner compressor to install later.
I pride my self in how well maintained my DMC is but it's clear
considering all the rust and
frozen bolts and spacers I found that There is a lot more work needed if my
D is to be in the shape
I want. Most of the repair work required to fix the pulley problem is
removing three bolts the sitting under a nice shade tree and cleaning the
rusty pulley pins and spacers. I recommend the addition of a frozen
beverage like Daiquiri or Margarita Juleps or their ilk. As clean as I
thought I was keeping the engine compartment, it's now clear that
disassembly and cleaning of some parts is just as important.
I am lucky that the pulley failed with in blocks of my house and the belt
cut the water pump just then and not out on the highway. Needless to say
until it failed the dry bearings singing "I need lubrication" should have
tipped me off. These bearing failing is not a question of "if" just
"when". So if you have a few moments it might be worth the time to do a
little preventive maintenance.....you
can bet I have added it to my list of things to do!

This job is best left to a professional with the right tools.
A mistake is easy to make (especially without the right tools), and the
mistake could cost you your rear window, a torsion bar, or a hand!
I wanted to take a picture this past weekend at the DeLorean
Mid-Atlantic dust off. Rob Grady and Dave Titlebaum were adjusting
doors with Dave's home made rig (Very nice! Even had a "fold up"
feature so it could fit inside the DeLorean for transport!).

I'd say at best hopes, and that's just being optimistic that all is well
mechanically, all you'd get out of this is a parts car. They're going to
have to drop the price a few thousand though. And this goes back to our
arguement over the worth of our cars, this is obviously someone who hasn't
done ANY market research. And that's not a wagon wheel, that's what the
spare looks like.

I'm one of the organizers for an Easter Seals event in that happens every
year in Waltham,
Massachusetts. It's a 24-Hour relay where different companies sponsor teams
to walk for 24 hours to raise money for Easter Seals. This year's theme is
'Back to the Future' and we are looking for a Delorean owner who lives in
the area to donate an hour or so of his or her time to come to the opening
ceremonies. If you know of anyone who might be interested, or if you could

Subject: rear speaker removal
I'm trying to upgrade my speakers, but I can't gain access to the rear ones.
I've removed the seat belts, door gasket, the interior rear wall, and
various screws. At this point I can bend the plastic wall panel back enough
to get my hand back there, but not enough to see what I'm doing. I
understand that the plastic panel can be entirely removed using a heat gun,
but I'm reluctant to do this. Has anyone successfully removed their rear
speakers?
