I just talked to Ed Bernstein at DeLorean One about the Stainless Steel
letters for the bumber and he told me that they don't have any in stock,
nor
will they again. He told me that because I haven't purchased anything
fom him
in years, I didn't receive the mailing concerning the discontinuation of
this
item. Is this true, or did he give me a line of bull? If this is so, does

Hi Mike,
I did about the same thing when I first got my D'. There are a few quick
ways to eliminate major areas of trouble. The first time I did what you
did
I had a bad Inertia switch. which cuts off the Fuel pump. One very quick
way to check both fuel pump and IGN is to dump a soda pop cap full of gas
into the intake manifold (air cleaner removed). wait a minute then crank
it, if you have spark and every thing else is working but the fuel pump,
the engine will catch for a moment.
Joe will track you on the other most likely ways to find the problem.
I found that cleaning all the contacts is not always enough, you also
need
to reform some of the connectors to ensure that the make good contact.

Mike, My car would not start yesterday, it turned out that the wire
pigtail
at the fuel pump had an open in it. Most likely caused by the hose clamp
that holds the fuel pump to the tank. I moved the wire and the pump came
on. Remember, that the controls will shut the pump off if the engine is
not
running after a few seconds. So crank the engine, then immediately check
the fuel pump.

Greg,
A detailed crossover parts list for the DeLorean listing component
crossovers exists. It was first published in 1987 and has been updated
over
the years and now lists over 100 parts from air conditioner compressors to
windshield wiper control modules.
I have been servicing DeLoreans since I bought mine back in 83, and I feel
confident in saying that of all of the DeLorean repair facilities I
believe
I have more experience in looking for parts than anyone. I can safely say
this because I don't sell parts. During the early years of DeLorean
Services I thought it would be a good idea for me to create a parts
crossover list based on my part acquisition experience and make it
available to DeLorean owners everywhere. Over the years, as I purchased
parts from non DeLorean suppliers, I ran into many unpleasant situations
that steered me back to the DeLorean suppliers. Have you ever thought
about
what it would be like to obtain parts for the DeLorean if there was never
a
DeLorean One, P.J. Grady, DMC Houston, and all the other part suppliers
who
have been here for us through the years.
My suggestion to you and all DeLorean owners is purchase your parts from
reputable DeLorean suppliers only. Not only will you get the correct part
you will also be investing in the companies who have helped make the
DeLorean the most serviceable limited production sports car in the history
of the automotive industry. BTW I was the creator of the crossover list I
mentioned at the top of this post, I do not market the list but it is
available by becoming a member of the Southeastern DeLorean Owners Club,

Go back to the electrical compartment and access the RPM relay, connect a
12v test light between ground and the white purple wire and crank the
engine. If the tester does not light were close to your problem, let me

I have been calling DeLorean One about every 3 weeks for several months
trying to get my hands on these. They told me when I first called (at the
end of August) that they had sold them all at the DeLorean Expo so I had
missed getting some by just a few days or so. This last time I called
they
said they weren't sure if their supplier had anymore. The didn't tell me
that they would never have them again but it sounds like that's how it is
now. Maybe someone on the list has an extra set of these and/or the door
kickplate decals that they're willing to sell or maybe D1 would tell us
where they got them.

Actually, the exhaust tips that were described are similar to what is on
my friend's '98 Corevette. It has a larger tip on the end of the tailpipe
which is open to the air on the backside allowing the exhaust to pull in
fresh air before it exits out the back of the tailpipe. My friend bought
the car new from the dealer so it should be a stock thing. As to whether
it does anything performance or emissions wise, I don't know.

That I agree with, I wouldn't pay $120 for these tips. There are much
better/cheaper ways to increase efficiency. You may even be able to find
a similar item cheaper; I've seen a lot of compact cars lately driving
around with extremely large (greater than 3") tips, I always assumed they
were just trying to look good.

Yesterday I saw something really interesting. I went for a ride in a
really nice brand new Trans AM. This thing was amazing. When my buddy
lifted the hood I noticed right a way the hood was held up by Lifto - Mat
air pistons! Isn't that what our cars came equipt with originaly? My car
had lifto -mat pistons through out the car. I just thought that was kinda
cool. I bet for you guys out there that are in to cross refing, those
pistons would probably be great for cross refing.

something else to mind that I have done on several cars - If you remove

retainers are attached has become unglued from the fiberglass structure
of the car, and often has started to bend or kink. This causes the steel
panel to raise slightly lifting the stainless T-roof panel a little so
that it can hit the louver. If you really want to scare yourself, watch
this steel panel while someone opens and closes a door. If it is unglued,
it moves around a lot. Makes you think about parking the car for the
winter with the doors UP.
The fix for this, while conceptually simple, is not for the faint of
heart since step one is to REMOVE the torsion bars. I'm not going to
detail this here, if you haven't done this get the assistance of someone
who has. There is no substitute for first-had observation. (DMCJoe -
this might be a good addition to your videotape if it isn't in there
already).
To remove the torsion bars just relax them all the way, then turn them
the wrong way a little farther to unstick them from the front hinge. Once
you have the bars out, put a rod (a 3' socket extension works great) into
the torsion bar holes and bear down. This will press the roof structure
back down where it belongs. With one person holding it this way, drill a
hole through the steel into the fiberglass, about 1 inch on either side
of the torsion bar retainer screws and install a #12 x 1" sheet metal
screw. I heave heard of people removing the interior panel and using
screws w/ nuts, but the sheet metal screw seems to hold up and is a lot
less trouble. When done you will have installed 4 screws, two adjacent to
either torsion bar.
Now put everything back together - this usually drops the trailing edge
of the t-roof between 1/8 and 1/4 inch (!), and gets rid of a lot of
creaking noises when you open the doors.

I know that this has been discussed in the past week, but I have run

a problem with my doors.
My passenger door is opening up further then my drivers door, by a few
inches. This is causing a very sight rub with the front of the passenger
door and the t-panel. Both doors are opening to their full range and the
t-panel measures out to be in perfect alignment.
What do I do to correct this problem, I dont see any type of adjustment on
the struts.

Do not beleive any of the claims that these people are making on their
exaust tips. I read the descriptions of their products and as a
Mechanical/Automotive Engineer they made absolutely no sense. The
terminology alone tells me they have no idea what they were talking
about. Cars needs a certain amount of back pressure in the exhaust in
order to run efficiently so there is no way that these tips can improve
your gas mileage by sucking the exhaust out of the engine. As far as
boosting your horsepower they might but not as much as they claim. If
you want to add power to your car buy a cat-back kit from Borla or Flow
Master. There is alot more involved in exhaust than just increasing
flow. I am no genius and I dont know everything but those guys will rob
you blind!

Last week I re-read John Z. DeLorean's autobiography, and I noticed
he mentions that the Doonesbury comic strip used his story. After a
little research, I found this site where you can read & purchase old

There already is a vacuum created at the rear of the car beyond at speed.
How much much at what speed depends on the cars aero dynamics. That's why
drafting works so well in racing.

Back pressure is needed in an exhaust system??? I'm not positive, but I =
don't think that is right. I work with high performance motorcycles and =
the only motor that needs back pressure is a two-stroke engine. It is my =
understanding that the smoother the exhaust flow, the more air intake an =
engine can have. So if an engine intakes more air, a fuel increase is =
needed to balance this properly. At least that's how it works on =
racebikes. This is why aftermarket pipes and carbourator jet-kits are =

The Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade is an annual event held the
first
Saturday in December. This year it is Dec 5th. The parade starts at 5:45
pm at the south end of town and goes north through downtown on Palm
Canyon.
(This is the main, one-way street in Palm Springs. The parade actually
goes
north on the southbound street).
This is the eighth year for the parade, and the third year for DeLorean
owners. We have seven cars registered including a black D. All entries
are
decorated with white Xmas lights, even walking groups like bands.
Requirements for cars are at least 400 lights. Last year, Ed & Mary
Krasicki showed up with a monster inverter and a spare battery and covered
their car with 5,000 lights.
The decorating and judging takes place most of the afternoon in parking
lots, etc. near where the north and south one way streets re-join as you
head down toward Palm Desert. If anyone wishes to drop by to kibitz and
help decorate the cars, you are welcome.
After the parade, there is an award ceremony (the DeLoreans have won
trophies in the last two parades) then we will meet at a restaurant for
dinner, drinks, and more talk. The parade lasts until about 7:30, so
allowing for the award ceremony, dinner will probably be around 8:30 or
9:00.

I finally got my D on the road for the first time this week, and let me =
tell you, I LOVE IT!!! It is a pleasure to drive. I am experiencing >

first time. I never filled it up before, only had about 5 gallons in it =

and lines were just replaced, so the system might be about a year old. =
The car runs beautifully, but when I stop at home or at a red light, I =
smell the gas. Can somebody please give me some suggestions as to what =

I've been trying to keep up with the DML lately, so if the bumper letter
thread was finalized, sorry for this posting.
I did research on the stainless steel letters for the bumper and all
sellers
were out except for DMC Motor Center, Inc. in Garden Grove, CA (Don
Steger's
company). They are really nice quality (same material as the stainless
steel panels I believe), and installed easily. I had to add a little
extra
glue to the stuff that was on them, but they have help up perfectly.
I bought them about 2 or 3 months ago and they sold for $59.95 at the
time.

Dear DML,
I have a question. During a cold start my car starts right up.
If I leave it alone for a few minutes I won't have any problem. It idles
perfect. If I start it and give it some gas to pull it out of the garage
and then let it warm up the idle gets really low and the car feels like it
is going to die out. It does die out if I don't give it some gas. Then
when it warms up I don't have a problem again. What do you think is
wrong. The water pump and cold start sensor are brand new. The only
thing that I think could be the problem would be that 7th injector.

Fellow DMCer's,
Just an update to tell you about the house call Joe and Allen ( Delorean
services)made to TN. I had a water pump replaced when my D was in
Atlanta a
few weeks ago. Upon getting it home the pulley on the water pump, walked
down
the shaft, this caused the belt to come off. I called Joe and we were
able to
arrange a time for him to come up to TN. While here he was also able to
help a
second D owner replace the window motor on his D. This is what I call
service!!! Go back and read my previous post on Joe then add about 100%
more
satisfaction!
On a second note, does anyone have an 81 hood, lines with or without gas
flap
to sell? If so what is the market for this?
