In PA, if you purchase property that has an abandoned vehicle on it, you can get a title for it by sending in a simple form. ________________________________ From: DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Ryan Wright Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 3:55 PM To: DMCForum@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [DMCForum] Not DMC related... But still effing cool! This is cool but there's something everyone seems to be overlooking... The cars aren't automatically his. Possession may be 9/10ths of the law, but not when it comes to automobiles. Somebody, somewhere holds legal title to those cars and it isn't the guy who bought the farm. Yes, if you buy property and something is left there, it typically belongs to you, but that doesn't hold true when it comes to things like vehicles which are titled. Now, I'd imagine if the person who holds the title is dead and has no heirs and no will, the new property owner could maybe untangle that legal mess and wind up the owner of the vehicles, but that's a lot of "ifs" and one bigger if, if the laws over there are the same as they are here, the cars would then belong to the government. Chances are, if the cars were left in a welded shut barn and the current property owner is dead and can't talk about it, then either the now-dead previous property owner has a stash of titles hidden away somewhere - in which case the cars belong to his heirs, who sold the property, not the guy who bought the property and found the cars - OR, the now-dead previous property owner has a friend who he let stash the cars there, who may even be dead himself considering he'd probably have come forward before the land sold, but that friend surely has heirs who would have inherited the cars. A simple phone call to the local vehicle licensing office with one of the plate and/or vin numbers would probably sort the whole thing out real quick. -Ryan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
