They would still have to force it down people's throats.  Imaging you have
one of these new devices and some automaker actually does offer to buy it
from you.  After that expense, they will have the additional expenses of
trying to find a way to use it, adapt the production lines to accommodate
it, and retrain everyone to understand it.

It is usually way cheaper to use existing systems and tried and true
techniques.  That, and people generally do not change unless forced to do
so.
