I recently replaced the stock speakers in 1860.. 25
years take their toll on the foam surround.
Replacing the stock speakers with modern replacements
of the same size will be a huge improvement. If you
want to go a step beyond, you can mount larger
speakers in the rear parcel shelf.
Either option for the rear speakers requires some
special attention. To replace the stock 4x10's you
need to remove the interior panel. So the seat belt
has to come out, part of the door seal, and then heat
up the glue so it will come out in one piece. If you
choose to add speakers to the parcel shelf, the wood
needs to come out and have holes cut in it.
The simple thing do to is to buy a set of boxes that
will fit on the shelf, that would require no major
work.. However, you will loose a good amount of
storage space.
If you need help, come out to Jersey one day. :)
