I have a customer whose battery light kept coming on and his alternator
belt kept "coming loose" - turned out to be the water pump bearings. The
telltale was the really shiny crankshaft pulley where that belt passes.
The AC belt pulley was clean but not polished!
I also managed to snap my own alt belt by being a bit overzealous doing
it up. That's what happens when you do a rush last-minute job before a
big run (holiday to LeMans - 1000 miles or so over 3 days into France,
baking heat, lots of AC decided it really was time for the Ducey to go).
Luckily, took original alternator, spare belt and tools to swap it if
anything happened!
