This is something I never knew. The stock ratio is 3.44:1? How difficult
is it to swap the gear? I am used to things like this in GM and Ford rear
ends where you also have to change the speedometer drive to compensate.
If this is easy enough to do on the De Lorean then the bonus is you don't
need to change the speedometer gear.

No, I'm not looking for an LSD or ATB. Although the latter would be
nice... :)
I want a larger gear-ratio to move those big tires, and to take-off
quicker. The Esprit has a 3.88:1 ratio to turn a pair of 245/50ZR16's,
and in some cases, 295's with much smaller sidewalls. However, we're
using a 3.44:1 differential, which is normally only used to turn
185/75R14's & 13's used on many Renaults/Eagles. Instead, we're using
it to move a set of 235/60R15's! If I try to do a burn out, I'll slip
the clutch before I even move those tires. The fulcrum on the stock
differential is just too low.
The stock DeLorean differential may be there for conservation when it
comes to fuel economy. But it's really just too damn small to be on a
sports car! 3.78:1 would suit me well enough.
