Yep. It basically takes it out of the equation. The cross reference I
have shows these parts:
Calorstat: V6569, World: W57-126, Dauphinoise Thomson: 206402-B86, NAPA
#280 (use gasket sealer)
Your best bet is to ask for a thermostat for a 1981 Volvo 760 GLE with a
2.8 liter engine.

I agree. If the left hand hose gets hot, and the rad warms up, it ain't
the thermostat. That said, it's an excellent investment in preventative
maintenance.
